Okay, I just want to throw this out there as a warning to those of you loving the new LC ice-creams. Now first of all, this is incredibly embarrassing -- no, humiliating -- for my DH, and he's partially to blame for this, but nonetheless, please take heed.

My wonderful DH is one of those types who use Atkins WOE the way he wants. He still sugar binges and has never quite gotten over his carb addiction. His way of LCing is wrong, and no matter how much nagging, pleading, explaining, and teaching I do, he's still going to do it HIS way. So be it. Well, I think he's finally seeing how messing with your body and binging on the "bad things" is going to catch up and reek havoc.

He's not willful about portion control. He's discovered the new Breyer's LC ice cream, and as intelligent as he is, he takes the attitude that if it's LC, he can eat as much as he wants. WRONG! He can, but not without paying a very serious price. Every time he eats a half of a half-gallon (YUP, that much), he develops bowel incontinence the next day -- not just diarrhea, but true incontinence. A trip to the doctor scared him beyond anything (he’s already planning his funeral), as they are now running a battery of tests to make sure there isn't something seriously wrong. Well, I am no doctor, but I DO know his eating habits and will bet my left toe that it's the exorbitant amount sugar alcohols he consumes COMBINED with the other sugars. He thrives on the LC candies and bars (and now the LC ice cream). I did some research about fecal incontinence (bowel incontinence), and guess what was listed right up there on top as a cause? Yup, mannitol, maltitol, and sorbitol. Mmmm. Go figure.

Showing him this relieved his fears a little bit, but I think once he experiences the horrible battery of tests they are going to put him through, he won't do this anymore. In my heart, I don't believe he is sick. I truly believe he is over-doing it on the wrong things and these nasty chemicals (alcohols) are not agreeing with his body.

Some people have to learn the hard way. Please don’t get me wrong; I am VERY sensitive to his pain and his fears, and I hope I am right, but I just hope he LISTENS this time to the doctors one way or the other.

OMG! He's having so much that he's going to the doctor? That's definately too much.

I wonder if you shoujld tell his doctor about all the sugar alcohols? Perhaps that would help the doctor understand what's going on?

(((hugs)))

I didn't know Breyers made a low carb icecream. Is it good? I'm very glad all of these companies and starting to notice that low carb is the trend.
