I have come to the conclusion that what was missing from my life was Body Pump! About a year ago I used to go to BP classes once or twice a week ( and 4 years ago I used to be in the gym 2hrs a night doing at least an hour of cv and the full quota of weights) at both times I had a far better figure and was much stronger, plus I never had a back strain like I do now as I did so much exercise the muscle supported it.
I went back to the Body Pump class again last night on half the weights I used to and came out shaking ! Now my butt kills and I feel great!!!!
So if anyone out there's shying away from weights (come on girls, you know you hate the free weights area!) get down your nearest gym and get Pumping! ( my class had about 2 men in it and the female instructor was lifting twice what they did! )

thats sounds great. what exactly is body pump? is it any different than lifting weights? i haven't been to a gym since having kids. i am home with them all day & i work at night. i wish i could find time for the gym. i am not a big fan of putting the kids in their gym day care centers. anyone have experience with this?

I love my at-home Body Pump video! Great music, great inspiration, great workout!

Go to videofitness.com or collagevideo.com to investigate this and other workouts you can do in your own home whenever you like. Warning: home exercise can be addictive.

P. S. Body Pump uses its own type of barbell. At home, I use my regular barbell. This workout can be done with dumbbells, but you may soon find that you want more weight. You can get a decent barbell with weights for under $50 at Wal-Mart and other sporting goods outlets.

The body pump I do is at my gym (Livingwell) it's an hour long class(have you got time to fit this in? You probably need to do it 2 or 3 times a week) set to music which focuses on lots of repetitions (basically you use a maneageable weight and exercise the muscle to fatigue). It's also pretty speedy and they move from one muscle group to the next. The weights range from 1 to 5kg and you can add weight from week to week little by little. Every 8 weeks or so they change the routine and you get new music and sequences.
I like it because I don't have to think or even count reps! Also it's good for technique as you're being supervised. It's also good because you get guided through all of the moves and it should give you confidence to do it at home or out in the main gym ( although it's gotta be said I keep away from the beefy sweaty men in the main gym as they have a tendency to hog the weights, show off and perv at the women! )
I didn't know about the videos! They dont do that here yet I don't think, but you must have more in America.
Try it! It's great!

Trude, I've been BodyPumping over five years now. It is truly a fantastic workout that can change the way you thing about yourself, as well as the way you look.

Becoming stronger physically has become a metaphor in my life for becoming stronger in every way. And I credit BodyPump and a great instruction for helping me believe I could be both.

wow I have never heard of a bodypump class. If I can have arms like BC then I'm all for it. Don't know if they are offered here in Cali but will check. Thanks for the info.

Shay, this link should work--then click on the world map in the upper right hand corner for some locator pulldowns. I know there are some places in Cal. that have pump classes, since another of our members, CR, pumps, too.

I should mention that BodyFlow and BodyStep are great classes, too, if your club offers them.
