Good morning everyone. I have been doing atkins for 6 1/2 wks. I lost 8 lbs, and about 3 inches in my waist during induction, then.....
nothing, nada, zilch.
I pursued and now I finally understand the power of the whoosh fairy! I stepped on the scale this am and am down another 4 lbs, so I measured my waist and am down another in.
I am so excited as last night I was pondering this wol and had decided that even though I wasn't losing and may not ever lose any more that I was still going to stick with this wol just for the fact that I felt better physicaly.
Sorry to ramble but am sooooo excited about the whoosh fairy, I understand her power now! WHOO HOO.
For anyone who is going through what I just did-no loss for a while, keep on keeping on it will happen eventually!

I am so glad for this board and everyone here-there is so much support and information here.
thanks everyone.

CONGRATULATIONS, DAWN!!!

Your story is like so many others... including mine. But, unfortunately, a lot of newbies don't give this woe a fair chance. Our bodies are NOT going to give up this fat willingly -- what we so happily gave to them .
Anyone with a significant amount of weight to lose is going to go through *mini-stalls* and sometimes the best action is no action -- "just keep on keeping on."
The perseverance usually pays off and the whoosh fairy makes her surpise visit. And isn't it that much nicer of a surprise when you've waited so long for it???

Again, congratulations. You are doing awesome! Keep it up.

Summer

Congrats Dawn! That is wonderful. I know the power of the woosh fairy as well. It is a mystical, magical phenom until it happens to you!

Say, why don't you post a sample of your daily menu? I'm sure many people would like to see how you did it!

I have never posted, but i read your message and I must. I also got VERY discouraged recently. I have been on since May and lost 30 lbs. by Sept. I have not lost any since-but i am loosing inches. Went to Dr. yesterday and my cholesteral went from 286 to 217-good kind increased from 41-55 and trig. went from 158 to 83. Dr. said to just wait it out and keep going with WOE. I am adding muscle due to walking 2 miles each day. I have 55 more lbs. to go. I am looking for the whoosh fairy.

What is it with that darn fairy? Just when you think a stall could go on forever here comes the WHOOSH! I had a stall for about 3 weeks (of course stress doesn't help at all either!) and then whoosh...

Please send her/him my way. I started eating the Russell Stovers sugar free pecan clusters and that stalled my weight loss. Are there hidden carbs in that candy? It sure was good though. ALso started lifting weights and gained a couple of pounds. If the scale is going to continue to go up because of the weight lifting, should I just stop lifting all together?(not lifting heavy weights, just trying to tone)

Shay,

YES! Those sugar-free candies are full of hidden (and REAL) carbs! They are not carb-free just because they are sugar-free.
They stall me every time I eat them so I only eat them on very rare, very special occasions...

As for the weight lifting, ignore the scale for a while. While you might put on a couple of pounds of muscle weight, you are also LOSING fat in the process. Who cares what the scale says? It's how you look that really matters.
Also, increased muscle mass means increased metabolism! Don't trade the better health/better body, just to see a lower number on the scale now. The weight-lifting will ultimately mean a more permanent lower number!
HTH,

Summer

i'm posting a sample of my menu per marcilynn

breakfast is usually
mock danish or
2 egg omelet (ham/cheese or salsa/cheese)
(sometimes w/ 1/2 avocado
or
just bacon

lunch is usually
some type of meat from dinner + salad or veggies
or tuna salad or chicken salad or turkey slices and cheddar cheese.

dinner is usually whatever meat i make the family plus veggies/salad
I have made several lc recipes that they like,
the best ever meat loaf posted by chippykd is a fave her now.
(last night i made boxed hamburger helper for the family. AFTER i browned the burger I pulled out some for myself and added sauteed onions and topped with cheese, and seasoned with garlic)

desert-my fave is sf jello w/whipped cream (i use sf toroni syrup to sweeten the cream)
or brown cow (diet root beer w/heavy cream)

snacks are chosen from the following
macadamia nuts or almonds
pork rinds by themselves or cin. crisp or dipped in sourcream and salsa
xtra sharp cheddar or string cheese
canned green beans (a whole can usually)
avocado(i luv it)
sf mints/i can't chew gum due to tmj and dental work

once in a while i have atkins ice cream or lc bars but that is mainly a convience thing.

I hope that this does help someone, sorry so long. I havn't tracked my actual carb count the last few wks so I havn't recorded my actual diet either) but i am trying to write everthing down again.

thanks again everyone.

Ya know, if you think about it, the whooooosh fairy is a very busy lady and can't get to all of us EVERY day. She can only fit me into her schedule about once a month. But after doing this for 7 months now, I know she will eventually get back to me. So I just keep eating this way and drinking my water (and trying to exercise) and sooner or later, here she comes. I'm soooooo happy to see her and then I reluctantly say bye-bye.......until the next time.

It's true, we lose in spurts. That's just the way it is. If you can accept this, you will have a much easier time of it mentally.

Thank You Summer and Barb for setting me straight. I Love this wol and I will continue to do this because I feel good. I know this is right for me. It's just that sometimes when that scale doesn't move, it's discouraging. I will definitely not buy anymore of that delicious candy!

Splenda is much less likely to derail your weight loss. Used in moderation, these are probably a better choice than commercial chocolates made with sugar alcohols.
