Here is my question. I'm at approx. 30 g. of carbs/day right now. Hypothetically, if I were to decide tomorrow to eat 20 M&M 's which are 9.6 grams of carbs, and then kept the rest of my meals to a total of 20 grams for the day, would I throw myself out of ketosis? I guess I'm wondering if a person can eat refined sugar without going out of ketosis. I don't have any plans for an M&M splurge tomorrow because I have learned the hard way how easily my cravings get triggered. I have experienced the "risks" of cheating - cravings, stalls, etc. and don't want to do that again.

Thanks in advance,
Martha

I suppose some people with high carb tolerances probably can do that, so there's no firm answer. In general, though, it's asking for trouble.

Not all carbs are created equally. There's this cool little thing called the "glycemic index" which measures how hard the carbs in a type of food hit your system. 9 carb-grams of M&M's would probably hit you much harder than 9 carb-grams of peanuts, for instance.

Learn more about the glycemic index here: http://diabetes.about.com/library/me...i/ngilists.htm
