...how many carbs (and calories!) I've consumed. It was a family wedding that lasted three days. Can you say indulge??

This is the first time I've seriously fallen off the wagon since January, and I didn't hold back. Really, I enjoyed the festivities without guilt. But now my body's in total chaos, and I can hardly wait to restore low-carb balance. Fitday, here I come.

I'm going to return to induction as a counter-measure. I'm also going to count calories, to see whether or not I can make a dent in that pesky last ten pounds to goal.

This short vacation from carb-counting has helped me realize how happy and healthy I've been on the program--and how yucky sugar makes me feel.

I'm actually looking forward to "normal" eating again! Anybody else have an experience with an "edifying" binge?

Oh yes!! I had a friend make me lunch the other day and I had a grill cheese sandwich and tomato soup. Ughh... by the time I got back to work I was miserable. Going off this WOE is not fun and does make you appreciate low carb, no sugar. Just looking at a milkshake turns my stomach because I know what it will do to me. However a yummy protein shake I love!!

For you to realize that this WOE is the way for you and binges are hard on your system is a big step as well. Congrats!!

A wedding-binge, huh?

Experiences like yours are so important to share and I appreciate your doing so.

So many of us have an "it's-got-to-be-all-or-nothing" mentality. We either have to eat everything in sight or deprive ourselves. I wonder how you'd feel today if you had gone to the wedding, planned ahead of time what you would and would not eat, and then gone ahead and had a great time but only indulged a little?

I'm trying to prepare for Thanksgiving right now. I looked at my "typical" holiday fare and realized the turkey was about the only thing I could eat!! My daughter said, "Can't you just eat what you want for one day?" And I thought, "Yes, I could.... but then I think I'll feel yucky if I eat so many carbs."

So.... I think this year I'll make some veggies and a low carb pie to go with my turkey. I will NOT eat stuffing, potatoes, rolls or gravy. And I bet that I'll be the only one not falling asleep after the meal! LOL!!

Michelle...

If you eat more turkey to compensate, you may fall asleep before the rest! It is believed that turkey contains lots of triptiphan (or however you spell it) and that's what makes us drowsy after a holiday meal. Dunno if that's real or not.

I've been planning my Thanksgiving meal for months:

Turkey
Stuffing (come on Sharron! )
Marcie's CauliMash
Steamed Green Beans
Homemade cranberry sauce
Relish tray with pickles, black and green olives
Jello salad (either the two layer one in the cooking forum, or something I make up)
Low-carb rolls
Pumpkin Cheesecake (Dana's book) with REAL whipped cream

So with us... Thanksgiving... peice of cake (figuratively, of course)

For those that haven't tried Dana's Pumpkin Cheesecake - I'd strongly recommend putting a LC crust on it - she calls for buttering the pan, and then sprinkling just a few nuts on the bottom (not even enough to coat the bottom).. It makes for greasy, soggy nuts that have no flavor whatsoever, and actually manages to ruin the overall exerpience of what would be a really GOOD cheesecake..

JMHO.

Actually, my experience with the nuts was different, but no better. In my case, I used a regular aluminum springform pan (kinda thin, IMO) and the pecans seemed to be sorta "toasted" by the heat. They were a lot darker and somewhat more bitter.

I have recently acquired a "double-secret" pie crust recipe from a best-selling cookbook author, and I'm going to use it next time.

I plan on making it with Sharron's crust recipe next time. Except...Sharron - if you're out there, do I still want to bake the crust before baking the cheesecake, since the cheesecake takes so long to bake? (approx. an hour).. I'm thinking it would burn, if baked "twice"..

Mikeyrat,

what a great menu!

Talking about cheesecakes. Does somebody have a crust recipe to share that doesn't burn easily? I tried a nut/butter/splenda crust. It got awfully dark. Thanks!

I have done the New York style cheesecake that was on the previous site with a chopped walnut crust. I haven't had any bad experiences with it not tasting right or being too cooked. I think it calls for 1 cup chopped nuts w/melted butter and Splenda. If you need the exact receipe let me know and I will search for it. I think the crust is almost the best part of the cheesecake?

Actually, this is quite fun, I wouldn't mind starting a thread about what everyone is cooking for thanksgiving!

Thanks for the pointers about the pumpkin cheesecake, I'd planned on making that as well as a traditional pumpkin pie (otherwise there'd be a riot in the family) for thanksgiving. I guess I''ll have to skip my beloved pecan pie...oh the humanity!

My thread got hijacked by cheesecake!

Honestly, I don't mind. But I agree with Chrissy--somebody ought to get all this info about cheesecake, and Thanksgiving menus, on a thread where other people can find it.
