The Burger King in our town has a sign up that reads: Doing Low Carb? Ask for a burger without the bun! I went in and ordered one today and asked to speak to the manager. I told her how welcomed I felt by her sign. She said she kept seeing people getting a bacon burger and peeling off the bun and she told them they could order it bunless. So now, she's telling everybody on the sign. I have found restaurants more than obliging to low carb folks. Now, if I can just get myself cooking lower carb stuff at home. It has been 2 months now and I'm getting sorta bored. Stalled at 10 pounds. What are your favorite home meals?

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!

My absolute favorite dinner is a grilled steak with a dash of garlic salt on it. Garlic green beans and a big ol' salad with blue cheese dressing. This kind of a meal makes me sooo happy and is something I NEVER would have eaten in my old low-cal/low fat days.

Cheers!

It's really smart of these people to encourage orders without the bun - from what I understand from people I know in the business, bread is one of the costlier things most restaurants have to buy - why not encourage those who don't want it to order without, and save the cost?! Not too dumb!

Mmmmm, grilled steak with garlic salt, yep, that's a fave of mine too.

Check out the recipes section here, there are lots of great ideas; also do a search on Google for "low carb recipes" and you'll get inundated with stuff to try!

grilled chicken, with smothered cabbage(cook some bacon till crisp, then add onions, and shredded cabbage, add a little water, garlic powder, pepper and salt, mix all together, put on a lid and steam, stew, smother for about 30-45 min - depending on how tender you want your cabbage = it is wonderful) and a salad or other veggie.... in fact DH is grilling the chicken for tonites dinner and when I get home I will make the cabbage....
hope this helps...oh by the way, you can eat just about any favorite dish you used to just dont eat the "high carbs - potatoes, corn, peas, pasta, rice, bread, etc....", The other night I had Spagetti (squash) and meatballs....
so if there is a will there is a way....

I really like portabella mushroom pizzas. Nuke portobello mushroom caps about 2 minutes, then squeeze out excess moisture. Top with shredded cheese and other favorite pizza toppings, broil about 3 minutes. (I leave off the red sauce, don't even miss it, although Classico Fat Free Marinara is pretty LC). I believe I saw the recipe on the website somewhere on this site, so if I inadvertently swiped someone's recipe, I apologize.

I have a stupid question on the cauliflower, do you cook before you mashed it. I told you all it was stupid?

Hurray for Burger King for offering that choice to Low Carbers! I always feel so wasteful when I trash my bun! I will have to check out the BK here in Salt Lake and see if they do the same.

I got a wonderful cookbook called "500 Low Carb Recipes" by Dana Carpender (available at Amazon.com) and it has a lot of great ideas so you won't ever have to get bored. I had no idea there were so many ways to fix eggs! LOL!

One thing I have been doing is I take yellow summer squash, cut it very thin and saute it in butter until it turns dark brown (about 20 minutes). Then salt it and eat it. OH MY is that to die for!

A great way to cook chicken is to put some breasts in the crockpot with a stick of unsalted butter... a little bit of rotisserie chicken seasoning and let it cook on low until it shreds easily. YUMMMMMM.

Salmon tastes great if you put it in foil with yellow and green peppers, onions, butter, dill and a squirt of lemon. Throw it on the grill for 20 minutes or bake in oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes (or till it flakes).

Hope these are some ideas you can use.

I like Red Lobster. Like today, I got a salad with REAL ranch dressing!, flounder, steamed vegetables and snow crab legs. I feel great this evening and know I can eat out when I want (and when I can afford it )
