I went to my local sub shop last night to pick up dinner for my husband and I was starvind. Had an appt after work and hadn't had anything to eat in about 4-5 hours. Oh, I looked at the menu and everything wrapped in a gigantic sub roll sounded sooooooooo good.

Well, I ordered his and then I asked the kid if he would mind making up something special for me. (we often order from this establishment). I asked for a chicken parmesean sub w/provolone cheese, very light on the sauce, but please don't put it in a sub roll, and please use grilled chicken instead of breaded and please no pasta with it. He said ok. Then I ordered a greek salad to go with it. I was so excited! I can't believe how many places there are that are willing to accomodate this WOE!
I just thought I would share, and like I said in my topic title.......It doesn't hurt to ask.

That sounds like a great meal. Better than a spongy old sub. Very creative of you to think of it.

I just did that the other day when we all ordered lunch out. I wanted chicken wings and a salad, but didn't want to pay $10.00 for both. I asked them if they would put boneless pieces of chicken with hot sauce on a garden salad (because they didn't offer a salad like that). It was so tasty when I got it, they did it perfect. Sounds like you had a great meal. I usually just end up ordering the sub asking for extra meat and taking out the insides and throwing the roll away.

Did you know that Subway offers the option of having any sub made as a salad? I had that the other week, and it was really good. (Although, could have been bigger, but at least it's a start!)

Absolutely! The Cheesesteak with spicy chipotle dressing is my absolute favorite, and with the dressing, it's only about 8-10 carbs

Mada, I had that at Subway last week (my first time in there since LC) and I thought it was too expensive for the size. I guess I am use to Wendy's big salads.

I really really really like Subway's tuna salad with just the oil n' vinegar they usually put on subs as the dressing. I ask for EVERYTHING on it, and the one by my work will give me extra tuna for free.

Be careful if you ask for Italian dressing when you're ordering their salads - the only kind they have is Lite and it's full of sugar.

I'm pretty bold when it comes to getting it my way at restaurants/take-outs anymore. If I want a burger or such, I bring my own lc bread/roll and ask them to use it instead of their own bread.

So far I haven't been declined.

Can't use the drive-thru that way, but I don't care.

I live in an area frequented by tourists. The servers rarely even bat an eye at my requests. I'm sure they've heard it all, and probably some a lot stranger than mine!

Last night we hit Chart House for dinner because I was too pooped to cook - I ordered the Shrimp Scampi and asked for veggies instead of the angel hair pasta they usually serve it with. It came out perfect - broccoli steamed just right with strips of red bell pepper, and the shrimp around the sides, with the sauce (olive oil, garlic, and seasonings) drizzled over the whole thing - YUM!

It's becoming more and more "mainstream" to eat this way. I say, when you go to a restaurant and are spending your $$, you should dang well get what you want, within reason of course! You can't expect Burger King to give you a Porterhouse steak, but most places can and will accommodate reasonable requests.

To which I see - BON APPETIT!!
