Hey, I'm 27 years old 4 feet 10 1/2 inches and 120lbs. I started at 132. I am a gymnast and I still work out twice a week for two hours. I used to be embarassed to go work out because of all the "skiny mini's" on team that were there at the same time. Now it's not such an issue, I feel stronger and lighter so the actual "body-type" doesn't matter so much. I was also always told that I should be under 120, but actually because of the lack of length in my torso, being really thin will make injuries easier according to my doctor and coaches. I also have only gone down about a dress size and a half. But my doctor brought up a good point, he said even if you don't see weight coming off, that doesn't mean there aren't inches being lost. Its just that we look at the number first. I have actually lost about 7 inches off my hip area and chest/back area, so I know it's working even whenI can't see a number reflecting it. Hang in there, I'm positive you are all gorgeous!

I'm just a hair below 5'1" with a small frame, and I'm about 136-137. I've been trying to get to 125 for about 5 years now - tried WW and the points, did low fat (I lost about 40 pounds doing low fat about 6-7 years ago), just restricted calories on my own, etc. I made it to 129 a couple of times but just for like a day. I started Atkins at about 137-138 in February, lost 6 pounds in induction and not a bloody ounce after that. I switched to CAD around July and haven't lost a bloody ounce on that either! Can you tell I'm frustrated??!! I'm not sure what I'm doing now. I'm trying to eat low carb, but I'm cheating alot because I just don't see any results. And I'm tired of the frustration over trying to lose 10 lousy pounds so I think I've pretty much given up. I'm just trying to stay around 135 now and accept that weight. When I start to creep up 2-3 pounds, I do induction for a few days to get back to 135. That's pretty much what I've been doing the last month or two - I'm kind of in limbo over what plan to follow, if any, in the future.

Are there any diabetics (1 or 2) that have their height as well as the disease to cope with? I want to know if you are seeing the same results I did when I started low carb!

I've never posted before, so bear with me please. I'm almost 5'2, 155 lbs, size 12 and have been on induction since August 25. I've lost only 5 lbs, but have tightened up alot by following my usual exercise plan. Can anyone tell me if it would be a good time to start adding more carbs? My daily average is 14-17, and I exercise up to 2 hrs throughout the day (aerobics/weights in the morning, walking at noon, sometimes yoga in the evening). I am constantly frustrated by no movement on the scale. My goal is 130 lbs.

im short as well, at 5'1". my goal weight is quite a bit higher than most of you though, at 150. my lean body mass is around 120, so trying to get as low as most charts say i should be is just impossible and i'd be skeletal at best.

i do my best to not compare my goal weight, or even current weight with anyone else's. my body isnt the same, so my ideal weight wont be either =) always remember that weight is just a number, it doesnt say anything about how healthy we are.

Nicolea, first, wecome! And congratulations on your exercise routine. I'm sure you are building muscle and losing inches even if your weight loss has been slower than you would like.

Now!!! At 14-17 carbs per day, you are not even getting the minimum, Nicolea. Yes, please up your carbs with good veggies, maybe adding in some berries now and then. We aren't doing ourselves any favor by keeping carbs so low. Too few carbs can actually slow weight loss. With your level of exercise, you definitely need more good carbs.

Please reread your Plan book, make sure you are getting lots of water, and keep on truckin' It is possible for us shorties to lose.

And if you haven't measured yet, take all your measurements now. Very often we lose inches even when we're not losing pounds...

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the advice. I'll try adding in some additional veggies and some berries to see if that helps. I was just worried that if I did add anything not approved for induction, I would slow my progress even more. I appreciate your support and positive outlook!

Nicolea, Welcome.

Since you're posting in the Atkins forum, I'm just going to guess that you're on the Atkins plan.

If so, it's really important that you start upping your carbs, as described in the ongoing weight loss (OWL) phase. The purpose of this is to identify the carbohydrate level that allows you to lose (CCLL). It also allows you to expand your food choices and start to learn how different foods in different amounts act on your particular metabolism. This is the "training ground" for lifetime maintenance.

After all, losing isn't worth much if you can't figure out how to happily maintain your new weight.

(If you're not following Atkins, feel free to disregard anything I've said ... except for the underlying philosophy. )

I'm here too. At 5 feet tall, I have lost more than my height in inches (64" so far). Yeah!
I don't mind being vertically challenged near as much as I did when I had the weight issue too. Most of that is because I feel so much better on this wol. I look at pics of myself taken just a few months after starting and I'm surprised that I still looked heavy. I didn't feel heavy anymore.
It is amazing how we're all different. I personally couldn't be over 120 pounds and look like I was at a healthy range. I am definately one that will look better at the lower end of the recommended weight range. I used to think I had a medium to large frame. Nope, small frame after all.

Hi there, (LONG)

I'm also vertically challenged , I'm 5' 1" (almost, but I'm owning my own height .

I started Atkins 12/27/02 at a whopping 185 lbs. With 200 staring me in the face, I was scared to death. Not only that, but my body was telling me that I was way too heavy- my knees cracked when walking up a mild grade, my back ached, I was exhausted all the time. I tried a low fat diet for a few months- it always worked for me before but this time I struggled for 3 months, starved myself and lost a whopping 10 lbs which I promptly regained after a few weeks slip.

I've now gotten my weight down to 144- 41 lbs gone forever! At this weight I wear a size 12 comfortably, squeezed into and zipped up Levis 501 size 9 but thats still dreaming for at least another 8 lbs or so. My goal right now is 125- I will see how I look then and decide what to do after that. Because of my yo-yoing I have sorta saggy boobs and they get REALLY depressingly saggy at my low weights. I have a pic my ex-bf took when I was about 124 and while I'm happy with my body in general then, my upper half is not quite as upper as it should be. So I may keep it to 125-130 and concentrate on exercise so I can attain an attractive body without losing out on my curves. I no longer want the waif look that tortured me when I was younger- not only could I not achieve it even when I was a low weight- I have a medium frame and round face- but I've learned to accept my body for its short round little self.

I'm a big eater myself- I always cleaned my plate as a kid and not much of that has changed except I find myself reducing portion size by about 1/3 and being satisfied with one serving. Seconds are no longer a given. I try to stay active but I still haven't succeeded in a structured exercise effort.

Here's an example of what I usually eat:

Breakfast- flaxomeal hot cereal - 1 1/2 cups
or
Kielbasa or deli turkey along with
1/2 avocado sliced.
2-3 cups coffee/splenda/half&half

morn. snack - 1 oz string cheese

Lunch- Large salad with protein & cheese
with a full fat dressing or
leftovers- usually one moderate
serving meat & generous serving
of veggies

After. snack- conservative (in theory )
serving of sunflower seeds/peanuts
or other nut

Dinner- Usually 1 serving meat and generous
salad or veggies

occasional dessert- Le Carb ice cream

Thats a general plan- I just bought Dana Carpenders 500 Carb Recipe books so will be trying alot more recipes. I tend to snack less when I don't drink Diet Coke, sometimes I am not hungry for the afternoon snack.

I love this diet- I just was on vacation in Denver- it was kind of a working vacation because we went to visit my aunt & grandma who were in the process of moving- and was able to maintain the diet in a house where I was the only one low carbing. The activity helped but we also ate out BIG almost every night. The last night I had 1/2 lb crab legs, a 12 oz prime rib, caesar salad , veggies and a small bit of blooming onion (not legal but I picked off as much batter as I could). I lost 3 more lbs this week !! Yeah!!

thanks everyone for all of the replys. its nice to see that there are others out there like me. i haven't been online for a few days & i was pleasantly suprised to see so many responses.
count me in as "pear shaped" as well. i hate that term. yes, i have a small waist in relation to the rest of my body which makes it almost impossible for pants to fit right. they have to be a size 14 or so to get over the thighs & buttocks & when buttoned i have a huge gap in the back around my waist, i call it "gaposis".
yaz, thats pretty cool that we started around the same time & have about the same starting weight & goals, i'd like to keep in touch.
