I've been low carbing for a year now and I've lost 26 lbs. but need to lose another 20. I miss cold cereal and fresh fruit, corn and peas and also spagetti. Is there another WOE that have these things that are legal? Nothing with soy or tofu please!! My cholesterol is high and I have to taper off on the eggs so there goes 3/4 of my meals. I'm also sick of pork rinds ,sour cream , cream cheese, cheese and meats and just about everything I've been eating for the past year. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks for your time and have a nice evening.

i miss those foods too but i love the way i feel more!!!! what i do is once in a great while i have some food i have missed, like a piece of bread or something, just to keep me from going off this way of eating totally. Then i can go on with lowcarbing for a good month or more again.

Cold cereal? If you mean that incredibly sugary stuff on the grocery store shelves, I can't help you. I eat Hi-Lo ( from Trader Joes), and puffed wheat (actually, I eat puffed Kamut since it is marginally lower in carbs). I use cream, but half and half works. Just watch your portions. Add a little splenda for sweetness. That hits the spot for me.

Milk? To me half and half has the same feel and taste. Don't drink it by the cup, but on cereal or in cofee... Le Carb and at least one other dairy has a reduced carb dairy beverage. Don't know if you can get that, nor do I know if it is any good.

We can eat fruit, just not unlimited, and focus on the lower carb ones (berries, melon) If you must have the others, again, moderation... and not all the time. BTW, eat the fruit, don't drink just the juice. The fruit has fiber that gets lost in the juicing process. The sugar and carb count for juice tends to be much higher cup for cup than is the whole fruit.

Try spaghetti squash as a possible pasta substitute. Lower in carbs, and it works. You've lost a bit of weight, and seem to be onthe right track. If you miss it that much, go for a SMALL bowl of pasta once a week and see how it affects you. Same thing goes for corn I suppose...

We don't necessarily have to be slaves to this WOE, we just need to be diligent and consistent.

HTH, and as always YMMV.

Atkins has some new cold cereals, one with banana, one with blueberry, and another almond crunch or some such. I have not tried them yet but see that they run about 3 ECC per serving (2/3 cup) - you might look those up, and as suggested, use half and half, maybe even diluted a bit, instead of milk.

As for pasta, I just tried the Keto Mac & Cheese and it was pretty good. Not EXACTLY the same as the stuff in the blue box, but OTOH not loaded with trans-fats and crap either. Atkins also makes some new side pasta dishes (mac & cheese, pesto, and alfredo) that I've read are pretty good - can't speak from experience on that one.

Try some blueberries or raspberries - they are low carb per serving and really good for you. You could sprinkle some on the low-carb cereal.

I personally really like the new WestSoy Soy Slender products - no they don't taste EXACTLY like milk but on cereal, the vanilla is really good! I like to mix the cappuccino and chocolate half & half in a mug and heat it up with a bit of cinnamon on top. Very good nightcap.

I can honestly say I've never been bored eating like this - a lot of it has to do with my love of cooking though, and figuring out ways to make things similar to their old high-carb counterparts.

If you like and miss beans, try the Eden canned black soybeans - they're tasty. I make refried beans with them, or just mix the drained and rinsed beans with some salsa and heat it in the microwave. Makes a nice side dish to BBQ chicken or pork chops....

You have to LOOK for ways to make this work for you. AND you have to consider it a WOL, not a diet!

As a replacement for the milk try "Carb Countdown" from Hood Dairy (they carry it at SuperWalmarts). Very low Carb. I just got the chocolate 2% and it is good. If the regular milk flavor is as good it would make a great substitute with some LC cereal. For fruit, strawberries are great, blueberries and raspberries, or an occasional peach....

Heidiho,

Last I heard, eggs - in and of themselves - had been pretty much "absolved" as cholesterol villains. But if that's your dr's advice and you're happy with it, then you should follow it.

If you're so unhappy with your food choices after a year on your program, then you haven't found a way of eating that you can sustain for life. There are other low carb eating plans that have "reward" meals and/or a more relaxed attitude toward certain foods. You might want to investigate these different approaches to find something that's a better "fit."

Different LC Eating Plans

Don't feel "married" to a plan that you don't feel is working for you. Explore other possibilities, and maybe you'll find an approach that addresses all your concerns.

Heidiho,

Don't forget about the Keto spaghetti, it's much lower in carbs than regular spaghetti and it tastes alright, too! As a former Pasta nut, I really enjoy this as an occasional treat.

Good luck,
Kevin

Try Atkins cold cereals. I've eaten the blueberry and honey almond crunch, I liked both of them. If you like hot cereal try Flax-o-meal, banana pecan is great. The muffin mixes are good for a change to. Good Luck
