I'll admit it, I'm addicted to Diet Coke. I limit myself to 1 a day and usually am also drinking about 3 quarts of water. Could 1 diet soda cause a stall if I'm closely monitoring the rest of my eating? I'm at about 35 g/day and am not eating fruit yet. I have added in more veggies, cheese, and some nuts. Anybody have this experience?

Thanks-
Martha

Well, some people say they can't drink diet soda. But I drink it by the ocean-full. I brag about this too many times, I know, but last time I went to the recycler, I had nine barrels of empty caffeine-free diet coke cans and bottles. And I'm doing just fine. I would just wait for the stall to pass, first, and then look at other possibilities second, if it continues for many weeks.

There are some people who are sensitive to aspartame but I have a hard time thinking that 1 soda a day is bothering you.

I agree with Doc, stick it out for another few weeks and see if the stall passes. If not, you can start looking for other reasons.

OR, you could also get ahold of some cola flavored sf syrup and club soda and make your own. Then you could cut the diet coke out for awhile and see if that helps.

Hello,

I did fine while drinking diet coke for the first 6 months, then I hit a 2 month stall. I think most of the stall was attributed to too much heavy cream, but I also cut out diet coke at the same time. My weight loss started again-what I noticed after I cut out Diet Coke was that I was much less "snacky" and ate at least a couple hundred calories less ( I was eating about 1800-2000 and my BMR is like 1500 ). I have had diet cokes as treats (the vanilla flavor is very handy when everyone is eating cake LOL), and noticed late afternoon hunger cravings in every case. I don't think the diet cokes themselves affect your weight loss, but they could affect your hunger and cause you to eat more. I switched to Diet Rite and do not have the same problems with that.

My feeling is while calories don't count as much when you are starting- especially if you were like me and have more than 30-40 lbs to lose- but as we get closer to goal and smaller- calories DO factor in somewhat. It was about 30 lbs down when my body started telling me it was time to make adjustments.

Martha, if you're in a stall then I would say you probably SHOULD cut out things you're questioning. Everyone reacts to things differently, so it may or may not be the diet sodas causing your stall. Try giving up the diet coke for a few days to a week and see if the weight will "woosh" off. I've been losing and gaining the same 1.5 lb the past week and think it might be my coffee w/ splenda, so I'm cutting that this week.

And I'm gonna make it this time!

I agree with Patricia. Diet coke is one of those thinks where YMMV (your mileage may vary) Some people can drinks gallons, and others just don't lose. Ditto, coffee, heavy cream, splenda, nuts, cheese etc........ we are all different.

Good Luck!!!
