I was just curious to know if anyones weight loss picked up with exercising. I've been low-carbing for a month now, and just wanted to see what would happen with no exercise. I have lost 8 pounds so far! I walked 2 miles this morning, and can't wait to see how this will affect my weight loss. Makes sense to me that we would lose weight faster adding exercise, but just wanted to hear from you guys!

Thanks alot!

Kim - You're going to be thrilled by the increase in all things good when you start exercising regularly!

I first started exercising during the 4th week of doing Atkins, and it ended a stall I was experiencing.

Atkins himself says "Exercise - It's Not Negotiable"

Come on over to the Challenges forum and join in the October Exercise Challenge!

c-ya there

I started walking a LOT MORE in August. Walked over a hundred miles a month for 2 months straight. It doesn't happen right away but in the long run any good exercise will help increase weight loss. I have to say I have more energy and stamina and have increased my carb allowance due to the walking. So even though I've only lost 10.5 pounds since increasing my walking the health benefits are very obvious.
Good luck!

I wanted to warn you that sometimes the loss shows up in inches rather then lbs...I have been exercising daily for 2 months for 60- 90 minutes a day and have gained and lost same 5 lbs but have lost over 17 all over inches and i will take inches over lbs any day!

To get to the rainbow you must first pass through the rain!

John, thanks for the invite to the Challenge board. I'm headed that way in a bit!

Rob, you go boy. I don't know if I can get that many miles in yet, but hopefully I can build up to that one day!

Junie, thanks for the warning. I can deal with the inches falling off...as long as something does. I'm just wanted to get into those 12's hanging in my closet and eventually maybe some 10's...although I don't have any of those around cause its been forever since I've been there! LOL

HI KIM,

I THINK IT DEPENDS ON YOUR BODY. THIS WEEK I STARTED EXCERSING AND MY WEIGHT LOSS HAS DECREASED BY 2 POUNDS. IT FEELS GREAT. JUST GO FOR IT. YOU'LL BE BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF TOO. I KNOW I DO, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GO AGAIN TO THE GYM TODAY.

Kim - I was playing with the same 3 pounds for an entire month... up 2, down 1, up 3 and hold. I injured my heel so that slowed my exercise for about a week and guess what!!! I dropped those 3 pounds plus 2 more

I was really glad to read your post because I thought I was crazy!! I think the key is 'change it up' meaning just that. Our bodies adapt to whatever we are expecting from them and then it becomes the norm. Exercise is certainly the way to go but the routine needs to be changed on occassion, amount of time, number of days, type of exercise... the whole thing!! Change is good.

Congrats!

Karen

>>I was just curious to know if anyones weight loss picked up with exercising.<<

Yes, probably. But that's the least of it.

Since I started exercising regularly (walking, folk dance, badminton), I found that it totally increased my strength and energy. I can do things I only dreamed about doing last year.

Also, I have some muscle definition - especially in my legs. The back of my thigh actually has shape to it!

I can tell you that when you stop exercising, you stop losing. During the hot spell here, I just couldn't do it. Now I'm REALLY stalled and I know why. Now I have to get back on my bike and ride, ride, ride. I know..........just do it. No excuses, just do it. (me lecturing myself, LOL) I keep telling myself, the good news is..........we LC'ers only have to do half the amount to see benefit, than high carbers. I just have to DO IT!!!! Somebody kick me in the hiney.

Kim - exercise worked wonders for me - I feel better and my stalls seem to be shorter. One thing - when you first start working out, your muscles may retain more water to "soothe" themselves, so you may see a slight gain. Not to worry - net results is a much fitter you.

I seemed to have a brief stall when I stopped exercising. I've had a pinched nerve that ruined biking for me. But then I started to lose weight again.

I can see the effect of exercise in my ketostix. I get the darkest colors a few hours after exercise.

I haven't seen the biggest weight losses from daily exercise. It seems that when you first start a new exercise you get your biggest whooshes and after that it slows down, back to a more normal pace, or so has been my experience. That's why I prefer occasional HARD exercise to daily easy exercise now.

Exercise is a big help. I strongly recommend that you put a little strength training in your exercise routine. Added muscle will add a little bit of weight, but in the long run it will improve your figure and BURN MORE CARBS. That's right, even resting muscle burns carbs, so more muscle = a higher base metabolism.

Good luck!

Consider yourself kicked!

One reason why LC'ers lose better when they exercise is because you are already in a fat-burning state so you immediately stoke the furnace with exercise. Regular old high carb eaters have to exercise about 20 minutes to burn off the glucose before they start fat burning.

Yippeee for us right??
Barb I love your picture. I love being able to put faces with names.
