I believe I'm experiencing the Infamous Third Week Stall...

I've upped my carbs to 25g per day (approx) this week. With no weight loss this week, do I keep them at 25 per day next week or go ahead and up to 30g per day next week?

I guess it seems like I should keep them at 25g, but I would really like to have 30g a day.

All opinions/advice/experience will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Debby

IMHO, you should move on up. The "stall" is simply your body adjusting to the new chemistry. You need the variety and nutrients of additional veggie carbs.

Are you still in ketosis? That can be a good guide to whether you've exceeded your daily carb allowance for losing.

Debby, I bet you've posted this before but I'm curious as to how different CAD is from Atkins. And what made you switch to Atkins?

The old fashioned way to find out if you can up your carbs again is to test yourself with ketostix. As long as you're in ketosis, everything is way cool.

Thanks everyone! Ketostix still show that I'm in ketosis, so I'll go ahead and up my carbs to 30g per day. Yeah! Need to get my exercise routine figured out and started again soon.

Michelle, below is a quote from a post of mine on 10/21 (11 days after starting induction).

quote:
I absolutely loved CAD/CALP. The reasons I chose it over any other LC plan are the following:

1. It's a simple plan.
2. Don't have to count carbs. Made life more simple and easy, especially with my 21 month old DD wanting to eat off my plate.
3. Could eat the same thing as my family at dinner time (DH who has no problem with weight and my previously mentioned DD).
4. Didn't have to change my cooking style. I made lots of casseroles and such. Used my crockpot a lot.
5. Made it easier, IMO, to eat out. Also, made eating at social gatherings a lot easier.
6. The RM did help me "stay in line" a lot of days. When I was craving/wanting carbs, I would tell myself "you can have that at dinner".
---
Here's my story... Started CAD/CALP Jan. 12th and lost 42 pounds. This was with a couple of detours (periods off-plan). The first was in March for a week. The second was in May/June for 3-4 weeks. Well, that last "detour" started in the beginning of September and seemed like it was never going to end. I just could not get back on plan. I kept telling myself... "do what you did in June. Just re-commit!" But, I couldn't seem to do it. Then on October 8th, something inside me snapped. I knew at that point that I needed to switch to Atkins. I started Induction on October 10th.

I never really believed that my cravings would go away totally, but they have. Even with an extremely stressful week last week, I did not want to turn to carbs. I had a small bit of cravings when TOM started this weekend, but it was nothing compared to what I've had before. I have been totally amazed.

I don't share this to convince you to switch to Atkins. If CAD/CALP is working, then stick with it. I wish I could have. It is so simple and makes life easier, IMO. And, it works. I lost 42 pounds on it. I had contemplated Atkins for months. I posted about it several times. Each time, the response I got was pretty much - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". It wasn't "broke", so I stuck with it. Then, unfortunately, it broke.

A basic description of CAD/CALP is this... 2 CMs (craving-reducing meals) which consist of protein and LC veggies (little different list than Atkins) and one RM (reward meal) consisting of 1/3 protein, 1/3 LC veggies and 1/3 carbs (determined visually) that must be eaten within a 60 minute timeframe. Depending on which plan you're following, you are allowed a craving-reducing snack (protein and LC veggies).

Things are going well for me on Atkins. But, I still haven't figured out meals for my whole family for dinner yet... just haven't had the time. I especially want to figure out some crockpot recipes. My crockpot became my 'best friend' after having my DD.

Also, the deal about my DD eating off my plate... well, she still does. I just figure the carb count (net, of course) for my serving and usually count it all, since she usually just has a few bites. If it's more than that, I try to guestimate and adjust mine accordingly. Does this sound reasonable? Don't want to get too crazy about it. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm up for it.

Michelle, feel free to start a PT with me anytime.
