Ok, here is a question that has been making me lose sleep at night... Not... Actually, I thought of this when I started seeing info for these lactose reduced dairy drinks from LeCarb and others...

Anyway.

I know about the great yogurt debate concerning the carb counts and all. So, assuming the yogurt assertion is correct, and the carbs are actually "eaten" by the bacteria and converted.

The question is, what about Lactose free milk? Why wouldn't that be OK? I believe the lactose is removed by adding an enzyme or some such to pre-digest" the lactose.

Thoughts? Please respond. This is important... I'm fairly certain the fate of the free world depends upon the answer to this question.

I think they convert the lactose into another form of sugar, perhaps galactose.

Is galacotose really a word? DR. I, it sounds like something out of Star Wars.

I have always been latose intolerant and I do not miss milk at all. The only time I ever wante dit was with cereal or cookies. Now heavy cream works just find in my flaxseed cereal . I don't even need that milk mustache .

Yup, galactose is a real word. There are lots of -ose sugars. I'm not up on all this, but I think there are people with galactose-intolerance as well as lactose-intolerance. Many babies, for instance. Galactose is one of those intermediate steps in the breakdown of lactose.
