Hi! I'm most definitely not a vet, but I know that SugarFreeSheila has popcorn occasionally (she's at goal). I don't know about OWL, though.

I hope you know who SFS is!

I feel it is up to personal preference. I love to have popcorn dripping with all the trans-fat "butter" when I'm at the movie. It's not like I'm doing this on a regular basis. Maybe once every week or more.
I do note my ability to hold back from "other" bad carbs seems reduced after I have popcorn. Not sure why. I'm doing better now that I notice that.

PQ, I have an addiction to salty snacks, so I would have difficulty limiting myself to a cup of popped corn. Even though popped corn has 4-5 net carbs per cup, it would be too easy for me to eat too much, so I avoid it. If you can limit your consumption to an amount that does not cause your carb count to exceed your limit and it does not stall you, then it is probably ok for you in moderation.

I'm with Henry. Who can eat just one cup of popcorn? It's like nuts, if it's there, you tend to keep noshing until it's gone, and before you know it, you've eaten your daily limit of carbs and then some. I'm one of those who just don't even try eating it. In fact, we get at least 2 tins of popcorn, one huge, every year here at work for the holidays, and I have a very difficult time resisting when the others here are munching, but I just grab a cup of coffee or tea, or a mug of water, and ignore them! I know if I took one taste, I'd have my head immersed in the tin, eating my way to the bottom!

Thanks everyone! I can limit myself, I am good about the nuts, I use a measuring cup and I am put them in a fun cup and when they are gone, they are gone!
Thanks for all of the input. I am going to look at the mini bags that they have out now.

I agree it is a personal choice, and your way of eating. I am in this for life, can I go without popcorn for life? No, So i figure out a way that will work for me to have it. For me, it's all about planning ahead, if I know I want it, plan for it or cut my carbs down a couple days after I have it.

So, I say have it if you can work it into your plan

I love the mini bags which only have19/20 net carbs in them. I just try to account for them in my daily allowance on the weekly occasion that I really want some popcorn. They are multi grain and very filling. I find whether it is the regular fat, low fat or kettle corn, the carbs are about the same. I say if we don't allow ourselves some treats like this, we are very likely to fail at this lifestyle. Good luck everybody!!

I still haven't touched any, too uncertain. I am conflicted on the net carbs. I am going to check the net. 20 carbs is what I eat in a day. I want to lose as much weight by memorial day...so maybe I will wait til then, Thanks!!

For me 20 is just too low. I want to be able to maintain once I have lost the weight. I have tried to incorporate under 70 and have still lost over 20 pounds in a couple of months. But that's me. Somedays I eat around 20 and never go over 70, but compared to the 300 or 400 I was eating before LC it is a huge change. I know what you mean about the seat or even seatbelt or those "rides" at the amusement park. Before the weight loss, I could feel the seatbelt digging in my hip, or have to stretch the seatbelt farther and farther just to go around me and some of those rides felt like I was being squished to death and couldn't wait to get off. Anyway, again thanks for the chance to vent!! Good luck everyone out there!!!

Cheryl,
I want to maintain the weight as well. However, the late great doc atkins once said that you could and maybe should stay on Induction til half the weight that you want to come off is....off. For some of us that is only 2 weeks, and some others like me that is 12-15 weeks. I would like to see a 60 pound weight loss altogether. Therefore, I keep truckin at 20 and under. I seem to get alot of creativity out of that little amount and I am hardly hungry. It is a very disacplined approach that I have to say is true however, like I said...when I billow off and up the carbs I awake the carb monster and look out.

Best of luck, keep us updated!

When I used to pop corn, I only used the kernels in a microwave popper then added my melted butter myself. I had stopped eating it in October of 2008 thinking it would be too many carbs for me. I just climbed up to the back of my kitchen cabinet over the fridge and pulled out my Orville Redenbacher's gourmet popping corn (100% whole grain). According to the label - 3 tablespoons of unpopped is 29 g. carb with 6 g. fiber. I usually pop three times that much and eat it all myself so I guess for tonight it will stay back in the cabinet. I'm thinking as a snack though, popping 1 tbsp. to start with might be something I could handle. Sometimes I just want something other than what I'm currently eating.

Yeah ... I've been curious about the popcorn issue myself .. I'm one of those freaky people who just likes the taste of natural popcorn , no salt or butter. Unless it is real kettle corn ... like at the outdoor festivals ... OMG... I love that stuff... but i have put it off limits for now. Perhaps when I am at goal I will be able to munch just a little , it's not like I can find it every day.
