I have a question... I have read the posts on Atkins bars and how bad they are and how high the carb count actually is. I'm wondering about the Endulge Bars. I'm looking at a Chocolate Crunch that claims 2g net carbs and 120 calories. Are these true to the carb count or is it like the bars??

Thanks for the assistance

Karen

Hi, Karen.

The "net 2" on Endulge bars is because they are subtracting all the sugar alcohols (maltitol in this one). If you count the sugar alcohols (and many of us have to) an Endulge bar has 12 net gms of carbohydrate. They are very delicous, so approach them with caution.

These are really good, and certainly a better choice than the usual candy bar. But, in my opinion, they are still a candy bar. They reawakened my sweet tooth with a vengeance and honestly, I would just as soon not have the urge to eat sugar even if I weren't low carbing. No matter what kind of eating someone is trying to do, sugar is an empty calorie. So, I stay strictly away from them.

Hmmmmmmmmm, yeah, they awoke my sweet tooth too, and what was terrible about it is they made my intestines feel like the Royal Rumble was going on. They made me find out that I could not handle the sugar alcohols. Abdominal pain to satisfy a sweet craving? I think I'll pass.

I keep a stash of Endulge bars (my favorite is the Chocolate Mint Wafer which tastes like a Thin Mint Girlscout cookie). These are to be used sparingly.... (maybe once or twice a week I will have ONE).

They are great to have as a treat but too many in one day will cause major intestinal upset.

And they are quite expensive so that puts a limit on how many you consume.

AND... I've found that if I consume them daily they make it so I don't lose any weight.

The best thing I ever did with them was crush up the Mint wafer one over a bowl of low carb icecream and drizzled it with Splenda sweetened choc syrup then topped it off with some chopped nuts. I had my own little sundae and it sure hit the spot on a hot summer evening!

What about the Atkins Advantage Shakes? A co-worker gave me a couple of cans (she didn't last a week on LC) and the nutrition facts say they have 5g total carbs and 4g fiber which would make them 1g net. Are they "safe"?

I could use a "chocolate delight" snack now and then.

The shakes are generally safe and do not usually have any iffy ingredients. Just make sure that most of your food is ... well, food! LOL! The shakes are great in a pinch, though. Think of them as emergency rations, when there's no acceptable real food available.

Thanks Maggie,
I'll just try one out when I don't have time for breakfast.

The shakes are also good poured into a big mug and heated up, for those mornings when you don't wanna drink something COLD!

The Cafe au Lait and the Chocolate Royale are particularly good that way....

I have to agree with Char - the shakes are great warmed....I also enjoy an EAS Chocolate Fudge shake in the mornings, in place of a cup of coffee. 1 carb, and satisfies the sweet urge.
