Many people report improvement if they increase their potassium intake.

Two words:

Potassium and Calcium.

The leg cramps will stop. Promise. I've been low carbing for over 5 years now. Trust me.

Potassium and calcium are often the culprits. I ran my menus through fitday for a week or so a couple of times out of curiosity and found I get a fair amount of calcium, especially since I've been having kefir, but I was coming up short on potassium.

I've found the best way to get potassium for me. The pills I've seen have teeny tiny amounts and I hate swallowing pills anyway. I found a "salt substitute" called NoSalt. It's pure potassium and has 650 mg per 1/4 teaspoon. I just use it in cooking, sprinkling it on anything that I normally salt and it really took care of the cramps.

BTW, I use my salt, too, in the same amounts I always have. I feel sorry for those who have to really watch their sodium, since this stuff does NOT taste like salt. While it's very bitter if you try to lick it off your hand, in food, it seems to add nothing one way or the other to the taste. I can't even detect it in mild flavored foods like scrambled eggs. It doesn't replace salt, but it's a really convenient and "invisible" way to get some more potassium when needed.

I'm really glad I stumbled across this thread. I've noticed that since I haven't been taking my Atkins 3 multivitamins daily like I should be, I've been having terrible toe cramps, especially at night. This was a great reminder to start taking my multi's regularly - thanks!

Yes, I love Morton's Lite Salt. It has a ton of postassium in it too. I use it instead of regular salt. It comes in a Lite blue vertical container found by the rest of the salt.
