| I've been on Atkins since July 1 and have lost about 18 pounds. I only have 10-15 to go, but am considering switching over to South Beach. I've been stuck at this point for nearly three months. I haven't read the book, and have not found a site as helpful as the ones available when I was first starting Atkins, but from my understanding, South Beach is low-carb and low-fat. What are other differences? I'm thinking I would start in Phase 2 of South Beach rather than Phase 1. Has anyone else done this? Can I modify Atkins to the South Beach plan w/o buying the book? Does anyone have a website that would be helpful? TIA! Blessings, Cindy "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I Corinthians 10:31 |

|
quote:
Originally posted by MomOf6: I've been stuck at this point for nearly three months. I haven't read the book...

Hi, Cindy - I would definitely recommend spending $6 on the book and reading it cover to cover. Have you gone through all the rungs of OWL? This is supposed to let you add more carbs back in for slower weight loss while being able to find out what foods or carb levels might stall you. Some other tips would be to use fitday.com to make sure you are eating enough, not eating too much, keep track of your carbs, etc. When you start stalling fitday can be very information. During induction you try to hit a ratio of 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% fat but those will change a bit as you go through OWL. Change up your exercise routine as your body adapts to doing the same ones over a period of time. Drink more water? I haven't looked at South Beach so I don't have any advice there other than also suggesting to buy the book so you can make a fully informed decision. I would say to stick to one or the other and don't try to modify them. Is there a reason you don't want to buy the books? Approximately $12 for both of them is a small investment in your health. You might check your library, but be sure the version of Atkins you read is the 2002 copyright edition. Linda |

| Where did you find South Beach for $6? I haven't been able to locate it in paperback anywhere, and the hardcover price is +$20. The waiting list at my library is more than 90 days long. Aderyn |

| Did you lose your 18 lbs in the first month? Because you stated you've been "stuck at this point" for 3 months -- and it's only been 4 months since July 1st. Your body might be at a plateau. (see message from Dr. I on his 11 month weigh in for tips I posted on plateau busting from a book I'm reading). You might want to just type in "South Beach Diet" into a search engine such as google.com or yahoo.com. I know there is another website totally devoted to the SBD. There is a forum here on this site too. (I think) Michelle -- 208/196/140 Started Atkins 9/03 Days exercised in November *** |

| i am reading south beach now & the first lines state that this is not a low carb diet nor low fat. i think the idea is controlling your carbs not really restricting them to low levels like atkins. also, you are allowed full fat foods on sbd but they are restricted. you are also allowed things like brown rice & whole wheat bread. christine 166/147/120 L/C 8/04/03 |

| Hi All! Michelle, I guess it's been more like two months. I'll go up a couple of pounds and back down a couple of pounds - it just feels like three (or four, or five!) Linda, I didn't want to buy it before I knew whether or not it was worth it. Others on this site have recommended that I increase veggies and decrease some of the high fat items (cheese, nuts, cream cheese, etc.), so I was just wondering if this is basically the gameplan for South Beach. Thanks for the input! Blessings, Cindy "Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." I Corinthians 10:31 |

| One word - EXERCISE. Have you been exercising. Exercising is the key to getting over a stall. Even if you lose weight slowly while exercising you will definetly lose inches. Click on the exercise link in the link bar. |

| Unfortunately, Sam's Club might as well be on the moon from here. However, even I can surf over to overstock.com! Thanks for the tip! Aderyn |
