You know, Dr. Atkins himself in DANDR says "Exercise - It's non-negotiable".

How are you doing? If you think you could do better, or even if you think you're doing great, come on over to the November Exercise Challenge in the Challenges forum and join in the sweaty fun!

It's a place to share ideas, frustrations, successes, or whatever else you have on your mind.

We all know that exercise has to be a part of a total-life plan to be healthy, like it or not! The low-carb cocoa is on the stove, so drop on by!

Hi Golfunit!

As we had a party over the weekend, I had to put away the equipment to make the exercise room a party room, MUST change it back tonight! I haven’t exercised since Friday morning. A month ago I bought one of those total gyms, great machine to build muscle, but I need to add cardio back in to shed more pounds.

I'm slacking off!! For months I've been getting up early to exercise before my day. Lately though I've had trouble going to sleep and then wanted to sleep in in the morning. Then, I skip the exercise all together. I do miss it. Feel as though I'm in a vicious cycle, no sleep, no exercise, can't sleep because not enough exercise, want to sleep instead of exercise. Sheesh!

I've been getting enough exercise, but I don't think it's enough.

Today I started increasing the intensity on the treadmill and I'm weight-training every other day. Hope that will help break this stall!

And I'm gonna make it this time!

Excellent! Come on over and check in and let us all know how you're doing.

RKC- good to hear from you. Parties always take precedence over exercise!! Come in and say hi in the challenges forum. I could use some more male input, plus none of them know the difference between a stratocaster and a telecaster :-)

Hey Febe -

They're two models of electric guitar made by Fender.

Stratocaster - think Jimi Hendrix

Telecaster - think Bruce Springsteen

Personally, I have both, but I certainly don't play like either of those guys!

I really have to confess that I am not doing as much as I should. Now with the Halloween party out of the way, I have time. I went to Bally's last week and got on the steppy thing where you move your arms and LOVED it. So I think I could get addicted to it. And boy does it make me sweat!!!! I am going to get back to my dumbells too and then go to the gym and start my weight training regimen again. I just read Protein Power and recognize the importance of lifting weights. It stimulate Human Growth Factor, which is what keeps us young (it actually unlocks it) I am all over that!!!!! So I have renewed desire to do weight training. WOOHOOO, I think I will go tomorrow after standing in the unemployment line (my seasonal job just ended) Better go get my gym bag ready!!!

I'm getting practically zip exercise right now. My back is all messed up and it's driving me nuts! This has been going on for months now. Presumably it's a pinched nerve between L4 and L5.

The doctor prescribed me Soma, which I declined to take for a number of reasons (Hate the stuff, it does no good, it's a tricyclic and probably conflicts with my other meds, makes you woozy, doesn't do jack...)

I tried taking Glucosamine Chondroitin for the past few weeks. I finally gave that up last night. It was giving me something horrible acid reflux and making me choke at night with mucus. Ugh... And it wasn't helping my back.

So I'm at my wits' end about it right now.

Doctor Insomnia - I feel so lucky to be in relatively good health right now! Is there anything you can do that takes the pressure off your back, like recumbent bicycling? Of course anything I say here is from the viewpoint of total ignorance about these things!!

Barb - All right, you've gotten the weight lifting insight!! The hormonal response is one of the important things. Also, as your muscle builds, your lean body mass (LBM) increases, and that LBM kicks up your metabolism. It's a fantastic chain of events, all good.

Exercise is definitely one of the positive changes you can make in your lifestyle. Dieting can seem negative sometimes; no this, and less of that, while exercise of any sort is a good thing!

After being good for 9 strait days, I totally blew it the night of halloween, plus the next day and the next day!!

Monday I hit the gym and trained all major muscle groups with the intention of doing it again on Wednesday and Friday. Spent about an hour total at Bally's. What a madhouse brooklyn bally's can be!

My BF and I are considering getting a Crossbow, though, anyone have one? I'm thinking I could get alot more done in less time (without the crowd) plus I could circuit train, which is something that is hard to do at the gym because I need a bunch of machines to do it and there's just too many people to hog all of 'em or else there's way too much time waiting. Not to mention the germs going around that place!

So I'm lo-carbing again "protien power" style and I'm hoping to keep up enough energy to pull this off. I don't think I belong doing lower carbs that that. And frankly I wonder where people get their energy from. I want to do more.

Thanksgiving is so close, I need to be good until then because i DO plan on being bad that day!

Erin - you MUST be part of our challenge!!

Actually, it was a bit of an inside joke between Mr. Road King Cole and myself. I first met him on the Fender Discussion Page, and we've both found our way over here.

Anyway, get that thing out and get moving again!

PS Know the difference between rosewood and maple??

After this little exercise pep talk, I went to Bally's and did the Eliptical for 20 mins and sweated my hiney off. Today I am going to do weights. Tomorrow I will do the eliptical and so on. I have renewed motivation to get back on track with my exercise. AND with Thanksgiving coming up, I want to counteract the carby goodies that will be around. If I keep at it, I feel like I will be able to indulge in mashed potatoes AND Yorkshire pudding (which is a fave at our house). Then afterward, I will hopefully have built up some stamina to really do a workout to work off that stuff. I don't plan on going overboard, but am going to have a taste of the "forbidden" stuff.
