Shelley - I would try going without the sweets for a period and see if that helps. I rarely have anything sweet other than a handful of berries and I find I really don't crave. But then, I never really had a sweet tooth so maybe I am not a good person to suggest this! LOL!

have you tried mixing one package of sugar free jello with two blocks of cream cheese. Once that is well blended, slowly add one cup HOT water...blend well...then one cup of heavy cream(or to keep the carb count even lower, another cup of water). Let chill till firm. Makes about 8 servings. Yummy, almost like cheese cake.

I have a bad sweet tooth when not on Atkins!! That's one of the reasons I love this so much. No cravings at all... if even tempted, the high-fat semi-sweet things seem to kick it quickly for me. A few berries are fine for me when not on induction.... but at the other fruits level I cannot do pears. Too much natural sugar in them for me.

Even though you've been doing great with the weight loss so far, I'd suggest doing two weeks of a clean induction with no sweets and using fitday to make sure you're eating enough fat -- starve that sweet tooth and the old habits! -- then start moving through OWL.

Shelley...

What I would consider a "stall", for me, is 1-2 wks with no loss. I'm working on 2 weeks now
I agree with the others. Maybe extend induction a week and eliminate ALL sweets. You really aren't supposed to have fruit on induction either. I think what's happening is you aren't getting a chance to break free from your cravings, whether they be emotional or physical. If you're HUNGRY...eat. A hard boiled or deviled egg. Celery and cream cheese or PB. Raw veggies with ranch dressing. String cheese. Left over meat. You get the idea. If there's something else driving those cravings you need to replace it with another behavior...take a walk, talk on the phone, go brush your teeth, handsprings, etc. Definitely stay away from the "LC" sweets such as chocolate and pb cups. A big NO-NO on induction. Remember, induction is detox!

According to Atkins, a stall lasts 4 weeks. So 1 week of no loss is not a stall. Be prepared mentally to stall. It will happen on a regular basis. Don't panic, just ride it out. You may experience lost inches, but no weight loss. That's OK. The body takes a little time to release the burned fat as water. Your salt/water ratios have to be "perfect" before your body will give it up.

Thanks for all the great advice!

I have challenged myself for the next two weeks, til 11/21, to refrain from having any LC Choc or Bars. I don't see this as a huge problem for me, but it might be just enough where I am not seeing loss that I could have. So my only sweet treats will be in the form of Natural PB, Jello Desserts (by the way Nat, I made your suggestion last night, num num, it is like a Strawberry Mousse! thanks), and LC SF Receipes. Hopefully this will help me keep on track before the Holidays as well.

I am not on induction any longer. Does anyone have any advice on my earlier question:
"I am kinda in between Induction and OWL. Some days I am closer to 20 carbs and every once in awhile I am closer to 25-27 carbs. I heard that this is okay, as it keeps your body from getting to use to the low carbs. What does everyone think of that?"

I know that I need to be patient, but I am so excited to lose this weight!! I have never lost weight before, so this is all new to me, and I am loving it!

By the way, Nat, do you have a carb count on that dessert when using the Whipping Cream?

Not gonna quit!

I haven't seen any mention about EXERCISE. Exercise is the yang to the locarb ying. Once I started exercising my weight loss got better, but I started losing inches from my waits much faster and my body looks better. Check out the the Low Carb Exercise portion of this web site. There is a link to it on the top of the page with the other links. You will most likely never make it to your goal without exercise.

quote:
So I have a general question... Do most people on LC, and therefore Low Sugar, WOL not crave sweeets or not have sweets on a daily basis? I didn't know that I was in the minority.

I eat something sweet everyday and have most of the way along this WOE. I use Da Vinci syrup in my coffee, for starters. Usually, my sweets are something homemade with Da Vinci syrup or Splenda.

I think peanut butter is a good snack. I measure a level tablespoon and eat it slowly - usually on celery.

Despite eating sweet tasting things on a daily basis; most of the time I don't actually crave sweets. This is in sharp contrast to the way I was before I started low carb eating. I used to have just ~terrible~ sweets cravings -- a package of cookies in the house would totally torment me until they were gone (sometimes, only a matter hours). I was occasionally appalled to find myself eating sweetened condensed milk right out of the can!

I've had a package of Atkins Endulge Peanut Butter Cups in the pantry for well over a month. I bought them to take to the movies for a treat and just never finished them.

I guzzle enough caffeine-free diet coke to float a battleship. (Drinking Hansen's Diet Peach right now... this is good stuff!)

I make all kinds of s/f desserts. I have an Ice Cream maker and make my own (since I can't seem to find any at the store.) I just bought (special ordered from health food store) Keto Ice Cream mix, vanilla. OOOOOH boy is that good. It is VERY sweet. I made some Atkins brownies from a mix. Now I have a 1/4 cup of icecream on a warmed brownie. Heaven. I can control myself and not eat it ALL in one sitting. Since the icecream turned out so SWEET, the next batch I plan on adding an extra cup of cream. OOOOOoh it's so good!!!!

Before LC, I NEVER ate dessert. It seems I have it everyday now and am still losing. What could be better? I'm losing AND having dessert. Gotta LOVE this WOL,

Teelbee, I have to laugh at your condensed milk confession. For me, it was sitting down with a tablespoon and a jar of Marshmallow Fluff! Geez, at least yours had some nutritional value! Part of what gave me a horrible sweet tooth was doing a protein-sparing modified fast diet (think Oprah) for a long time. Drinking those 5 sweet shakes a day gave me a sweet tooth that just wouldn't quit. I'm happy to say, LC eating really keeps it reined in.

Okay... wheww... I made it through my first weekend without any processed LC anything! I am so proud of myself. Unfortionitly I didn't eat that much, and therefore I am still in my stall.

As Murray mentioned before about Exercise. I am doing as much as I can fit into my schedule. At work, twice a day for 15 minutes I go down to the workout room and do a machine, and then of course take the stairs to and from (2 floors). I am going to try to walk after dinner, but now that it gets so dark so early, that is very difficult.

I am glad to hear that everyone has some sort of "sweet fix" now and then, it makes me feel more normal! I am keeping myself to eat only sweet things that I make, such as Mock Danish, which is pretty good, or SF desserts, and things of that nature.

I just hate being in this rut and stuck! The same exact weight to the tenth of a pound! I know that I have to work through it, and that this is a way of life. I am just getting inpaient! breathe... in ... out...

Not gonna quit!

Pat, Pat, Pat on the back, Atta girl Shelley!!! Keep up the good attitude. I've been doing this now for almost 8 (sheesh I can't believe it!) months. It goes by fast, and the weight DOES come off, just hang in there, we'll keep ya company.

Hey, what part of Minyasoda are you from??? We had a family home up near Lake Mille Lacs (Garrison), but my mother sold it. We just couldn't keep up with it after my dad passed away. I miss the old place, it's been in the family for 5 generations. I was born in Wayzata, and my sisters were born in Mankato and Willmar. My mom grew up in Excelsior and my dad grew up in Minneapolis (Minihaha sp?). Then when I was a baby, we moved to the Chicago area and have been here ever since, ya you betcha.

Thanks Barb! I am excited to do this, and the more I eat this way, the more I understand that this is a WOL, and not a fad.
We just booked our cruise for spring, so now I have even more motivation. Plus my BF gave me the nicest compliment last night. He said, don't get upset, but you look better now then you did when I first met you. Which is right, I am about 5 pounds lighter than 6 years ago when I met him. That is exciting! I am learning that the more I eat the better the loss is as well... just eat!

I am from Forest Lake, just north of the Twin Cities. But now I live closer to the cities, in a little suburb of St Paul. Sounds like your family got around in MN, all sorts of areas! Lake Mille Lacs is a very nice area, too bad that you couldn't hang on to the home.

Not gonna quit!

I thought I was the only one to have ever done that!

Hang in there, Shelley! You're doing fine. The longer you do this the less it feels anything else but normal. Then it's no longer a race, just how you eat.
