Have felt energized so much for so long that this afternoon sleepiness has me baffled! It occurs around noon and lasts sometimes until 5 or 6:00 p.m. I haven't napped because I have trouble with insomnia and I don't want to take the edge of my nighttime sleep.

I take Atkins basic 3 and essential oils in the morning with bkfst, along with lutein for eyes. I also take an anti-inflammatory. None of these are new.

What is new is my dropping coffee after picking it up while on vacation in Vienna (who could refuse Viennese coffee?). I was off caffeine for several months before we went on vacation in Sept. Just dropped the coffee last week.

Got any ideas?

If you just quit drinking coffee I'd say THAT is the culprit for the sleepiness.

Pegster...

Sounds like caffeine withdrawal symptoms I used to get when I was hard core into my caffeine. You're probably just adjusting. Drink lotsa water and hang in there.

Thanks you guys! I suspected that it was the caffein withdrawal. In the past I have gotten a headache. I guess it was the absence of the headache that had me baffled. It's good to get your input. I am drinking lots of water. I'll keep it up!

It took me a couple weeks to withdraw from caffeine, seemed like months.....

That was before Atkins, now between no caffeine and Atkins, I have not felt this good in 20 years!

In addition to dropping caffeine, the seasonal change might also have something to do with it - I know this time of year I tend to get a little sleepy mid-afternoon or later, and I'm not a caffeine drinker so I can't blame it on that!

I think it's the shorter daylight hours that get to me...just a thought!!

Thanks Char and Road King Cole: So sleepy this afternoon, but not as bad as other days!

Char: I have touble with depression, though medicated I have not had any low days for a year. The shorter days definitely played a part in the past. I have a bank of lights that I purchased years ago when I was trying anything to lift my spirits. I'll get them out and see if they help. (For those who want to know: it is a box about three feet long, two feet tall, and 5 inches wide. Inside are three long bulbs which light up to sunshine intensity [though not sunburnable]. They are shielded by a thick frosted plastic. I put it on my desk beside my computer and glance at it every few minutes. It has really helped in the past!)
Peace, Peg
