    Just how bad are they for you anyway? I've been getting that pre-packaged salad mix form the supermarket and it has a good amount of carrots.

    Traditionally, I've just kinda ignored their carb count even with thier high GI score, but lately, I'm tring to find all the sources of a current stall that I'm in.

    I'm also wondering if its maybe the citric acid in the Diet Rite. Any thoughts on this would be peachy as well.

    Fitday shows an oz of carrots as having 2.5 carbs and .75 of that is fiber... I wouldn't think there would be more than an ounce of them in a serving of the mix....

    If you buy the salad mix with the shredded carrots, most of them head to the bottom of the bag (which I throw out), so you're really not eating many at all.. If you're buying the salad with the sliced carrots, there's a good chance you're consuming more than you should..

    I'd also add, from the perspective of one who follows my blood glucose levels, that raw carrots are VERY different than cooked carrots. Raw carrots, in moderation, are no particular problem for me. Cooked carrots, on the other hand, I avoid, since they have an adverse effect on my blood sugar.

    Actually, carrots do not have a high glycemic index rating.
    They were given a high rating when they were tested, initially, in 1981 but studies have shown that test was faulty and inconclusive. They have since tested carrots more thoroughly and they now have a rating (mean of four studies) of 47 -- anything lower than 55 is considered *LOW* on the GI.
    You can confirm this information in the book, The New Glucose Revolution by Jennie Brand-Miller, PhD., et., al. (pages 59 and 320), Marlow and Company, 2003.

    I still don't eat *tons* of carrots -- (but remember, glycemic LOAD may be more important than the just the GI score and GI load is increased by serving size) -- but I don't go out of my way to avoid them, either.

    If you are on Atkins Induction they should be avoided, but otherwise I wouldn't stress too much over them.
