When counting carbs, do you subtract lacitol? I had never heard of it before.

You probably CAN subtract lactitol. Maltitol seems to be the worst villain of the sugar alcohols. Lactitol will give you diarrhea, but from everything I've read, it seems to have the least nutritional value (i.e., carbs)

OOOOOOH, I would be very careful of Lactitol too. Those Hershey S/F chocolates have lactitol in them. I bought three bags of them, three flavors. I ate 2 teeny bars one night and ended up on the toidy for hours. And if lactitol has the same kinds of impacts on the pancreas as maltitol, I would be very leery of it. With maltitol, if you get NO diarrhea from it, it IS impacting your insulin levels. If you do get diarrhea, it's not, but what fun is it to sit in the john all night?????? But it's entirely your decision.

Hehe, Bondo!!! Thanks! I love to make people laugh, glad yer one of 'em. I wish all of us LC people were neighbors. Then we could get together and party and not worry about what we're eating at each others' houses. Wouldn't that be cool???

Oh. Now I understand what has, uh, loosened me up the last couple days. Guess that's good news, though--means the maltitol is NOT being digested. And I can pop a Russell Stover raspberry when I have a problem. Thanks, Barb!

Sad but true. . .
I use those sweet little monsters as a tool. When things are a little, umm, backed up, nothing like a bar of Malitolly Goodness to get things going again! I take my chocolate firmly in hand, determined to eat every last melty yummy eye crossing bit, and with the discipline of an Army General, commence with the snarfing.
It's medicinal, you know.

HUH?!? You mean if you don't get the runs from SF candy, it's BAD for you? Man oh man, I thought since it wasn't affecting me, that my system was handling it ok.

Amazon, you are correct. No outward effect=insulin effect. Outward effect (diarrhea)=no insulin effect. So...........BEWARE!!!!!!! You might as well be eating real sugar as far as your pancreas is concerned...........Sorry to be the barer of bad news. But them's the facts.
