Okay... I had a huge moment of weakness. I have done so well since October. Today at work we had a Thanksgiving meal for our clients and I had made my home made stuffing. I gave in and had some. It wasn't just a spoonful either.. it was a healthy bowl full....
It is dense with bread.. I feel like such a glutton and I'm terrified of getting on the scale tomorrow.

What will happen? If I make sure I get back on track as of this moment, and stay ok.. will I gain like a zillion pounds back or can I catch it in time? I so regret doing it.. but MAN O MAN O MAN..... that was probably the most delicious, decadent thing I have had in awhile.

Thanks for the input or personal experiences....

JustTheThing,

I think if you get back on track right now, you'll be fine! You might show a gain on the scale tomorrow, but it will be water weight and will come off quickly if you stick to your plan.

Just jump back on the horse... and then stay the course!

Just the thing, that is it! It will be 'just the thing' for you to get back into the LC life tommorrow. Nothing but some water weight is going to happen, just get back into your new lifestyle and you will be just fine. I have noticed from some "cheats" that as long as you get back on the next day, nothing bad will happen to you..and guess what? We are all human!

Here is what will happen:
You will drink lots of water to get all the bad stuff out of your system.
You will learn from this mistake.
You will move on and make the right choices.
You will have some aspirin and pepto handy just in case...

And finally, YOU WILL MAKE IT

P.S. I'll bet that stuffing did taste real good, but NOTHING tastes as good as being thin feels.

And I'm gonna make it this time!

I LOVE THIS! And how true it is. I feel so much better every morning when I awake with no bloat and the scale not going higher!

Um...does that statement sound like the ravings of someone who is in a panic?

Take a deep breath. Relax. You've eaten some carby food. The worst that can happen is that you may register a 2- or 3-pound gain on the scale because of water retention. Ingestion of sugar (carbs) will have you retaining water. You also may experience sugar cravings and headaches from carb withdrawl when you are getting back into ketosis. You can deal with it. You did it once. You can do it again.

So...drink more water to rid yourself of the excess, pick up where you were, stay off the scale for a week or so, and just go on from there.

And calm down.

Don't weigh yourself. Thanksgiving only comes once a year, so don't fret over one lapse. I think if you denied yourself you would have felt resentful and more likely to binge later on. Enjoy the holiday--you will get on track later on. With this WOE, I have discovered that an occasional binge will actually jumpstart me after a stall.

I'm with April!

STAY OFF THE STUPID SCALES!!!

You already know what you did, you know how to fix it, so give yourself a few days with plenty of veggies and LOTS of water to flush out the retention from the carbs - and THEN get on the scales.

Why add insult to injury at this point???

Besides, I think that if you DO get on the scales tomorrow, and you DON'T show "a zillion pounds" increase - you're likely to think to yourself, "Oh, cool, I 'got away with it' this time!" which just makes it easier to think about trying it again - sooner - and pretty soon you're well on the way down that slippery slope.

So pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. NOW!! Not tomorrow!

And most important try making that stuffing with low carb bread, so next time you can indulge.

I ate 3 real chocolate chip cookies on Sunday. Haven't had any sugar since July something or orther. They were very good but I felt very guilty. Monday I was still in ketosis. One little indulge didn't affect my fat burning I guess. However Monday also brought the dreaded carb withdrawal headache. I was reminded of why sugar is evil. It gets me too on one side of my head all around one eye and lights and computers make it worse. of course I work on a computer all day. Aspirin doesn't hep either. Took 5 - no change. Went to bed last night, finally fell aspleep and that dreaded headache woke me up at 3 am. Couldn't back to sleep and had to deal with the paranoia of thinking I was having a brain aneurysm. Drank 100 oz of water from 3 to 7 am. Fell asleep for 40 more minutes. Woke up and it was gone!

You had an indulgence day. You probably are fine and will work it out with exercise and water. The hard part is not falling into your old habits. The advice about making the stuffing with low carb bread is great and right on the money. That way you can have a little and not ruin all your hard work!

I agree if what everyone else has told you. You are not going to have a permanent weight gain from your experience, unless you use the "slip" as a reason to continually overindulge. It sounds like you have everything under control though and will be fine.

As for the zillion pounds...it does feel like it sometimes doesn't it .

I thought I had a bad carb hangover once until I read Keviport's reply.....

And once was enough for me!

(I had tried one of those carb blocker pills).

Hope yours is not too bad!

We've all had some oopses now and then. We survived. I ditto what's been said above. You'll get through it. Add some exta exercise to use up the glygogen that was stored in your muscles. That's it, easy, simple. Move on. Don't fret.

So that was what I had on Wendesday.... A Carb hangover... I had no idea I just thought I was having an off day. But I will say when left overs came around on Wednesday I just made some Turkey salad, with some mozarella cheese, heated it up and had it on a nice bed of lettuce. Yesterday went okay too.... no stuffing, or potatoes, just stuck to the turkey, cranberries, and green beans. And lots of water.

Thanks guys....And yes, I was in a panic that day. And yes, the stuffing tasted great, but if feels so much better being thinner. After this, Christmas is going to be a piece of cake.... Err... ugh... I take that back.. it will be a piece of celery!!

Basically, the way I see it is that you feel horrible for what you ate, but you're not seeing the plus side to this. Instead of just throwing it all away and saying "forget it - I'll start again tomorrow" you're taking the bull by the horns and saying you want to correct it NOW. That's a big plus, and that shows how far you've come on this journey.

There will always be holidays, birthday, special occasions where we may not be as dedicated as other days where we are more in control. We may not make the best choices during these times, but we know it's only that time - We make the best of it, and then move on. The key is to pick up the LC way with the very next meal, not put it off for another time...

I agree not to get on the scale today - it won't be an accurate number. Drink LOTS of water and stay on your LC plan today - you'll be fine.
