A couple of weeks ago, I ordered a case of Mount Olive's Sugar-Free Pickle Relish after reading about it on the forum. I got it last Saturday. It was a little slow in coming, but I'm pleased.

It's hard to live without familiar condiments. For me, in particular, I've had to put something in my tuna salads because I grew up with tuna salads that always had some sweet relish in them. I've tried using smaller amounts of regular sweet relish -- almost all commercial brands are about 5 grams per tablespoon. I've also tried using finely diced apple, which is a very satisfying change of pace, although it still gives you a number of carbs. Now I can do without all that!

Mount Olive's sweet reslish, sweetened with Splenda, doesn't taste like Heinz or Del Monte. It's a little bit loose in the jar, perhaps because the sugar isn't there to provide the more traditional binding properties. They could, perhaps, fix that by adding more xanthan gum. People who love Splenda will be very pleased with this. However, I always get an aftertaste from Splenda, something I can easily ignore in a sugar-free product.

The real taste test was in the tuna salad. It was great!

I'm very pleased with this. This is the only low-carb specialty item I've ever purchased off the Internet. I'm usually very displeased with most low-carb items. I found this one to be excellent.

I too recently tried the Mt. Olive sf, but I did the bread and butter pickles. I also find Splenda leaves an aftertaste, but I thought the pickles were well worth it.

    Char,
Of all places, I found my Mt. Olive sf pickle relish at Albertson's if you happen to have one in your part of the world Can avoid shipping costs if you do. And usually, if they don't have it, they will order it if you fill out one of their little request slips.

PS: This stuff is wonderful in faux-tatoe salad too!

Wow! I did not relize they made SF pickles and relish. I have a jar of the dill relish and it is just too sour for me. I am a sweet person~~well, when it come to pickles that is .

I wonder if I can just add Splenda to my sour relish? I will try it out and let you know what it taste like. If it is yucky I will order online.

    Thanks Dr. I

They also have sugar free Sweet Gherkins and they're also great. Marsh Grocery Store here is now carrying them. I also like sweet relish in my tuna, chicken, and ham salad as well as deviled eggs.

I found this relish at my new local LC store Rosie's and thought I had gone to heaven. I, too, can't eat tuna salad without sweet relish, and egg salad just misses something without it. This stuff is WONDERFUL. I haven't tried the pickles yet but it is next on my list.

Char, at the bottom of the link below, there's an 800 number to call if you want to order and can't get products in your area.

    Mt. Olive Pickles

They're listing isn't up to date, though, since I can get the sf bread and butter pickles here in the MW. However!!!! I'd really, really like that relish--man you are right, Dr. I, tuna isn't the same without it!

You have to call them by phone, during east coast business hours, to place an order. They're not very well organized about taking phone orders -- I don't think they ever planned on getting a large volume of orders that way. When I ordered, I advised them that if it was any good, they might be getting a lot more orders.

It would be very nice if one or more of the on-line low-carb stores would start retailing their products so we could order these things directly on-line. [... Slyly hinting to various people on the forum...]

I get them at walmart. Of course Mount Olive is here in North carolina. I bought the bread and butter pickles but Never looked for the relish because i wasn't aware of it. Maybe I'll make my own relish out of the Bread and butter pickles since i find they leave an aftertaste. maybe a little mustard?
    any suggestions?
