I found the chocolate Carb Countdown milk today. I thought 2 net carbs wasn't too bad for an 8 oz. serving, so I began thinking. One-half cup serving of LeCarb ice cream has 6 carbs, so why not try freezing some Carb Countdown! That's what I'm doing tonight, and I will post my results later on.

Even if it isn't that great for ice cream, why not a chocolate milk shake?!

Sharron reports that the chocolate knocks her out of ketosis, so I'm checking on that as well.

Take care~

As you observed, just watch your ketosis after having it. It caused me horrid cravings and knocked me right out!

I do fine with the plain variety, though, and actually prefer the taste of the 2% over the whole. Just finished off a 1/2 gallon

Blessings!

Does anybody know why they don't make a sugar-free version of this stuff?

Just curious.

Sky, it is SF and sweetened with Splenda.

I checked my cup that is in the freezer, I need to set it on the counter for a bit. It's frozen a little to much at the moment.

Take care~

Thanks for the response, Kumus. All the Carb Countdown stuff I see on the internet lists sugar as an ingredient (3 grams per cup) so maybe I'm looking at a different type or something. I've seen it in local stores, so I'll take a look at the label in person one of these days.

Hope your frozen treat turns out well (is it full of those icy shards regular milk gets when you freeze it?).

Sky, when something says it has so many grams "sugars" in it -- that just means it has some carbs.

What you want to do is actually look at the ingredients listing further down the label. There, you will find that it doesn't have any sugar.

I would think you would need to put it in an ice cream maker or else it would be too hard.

I went through my half a gallon of the chocolate without any problems! It was very good.

Hmm, I do have an ice cream maker somewhere in the house. I could add almonds!!!

I am afraid it may be some time before I get to try this, but it does sound good so it may happen soon!

Here's the scoop on the frozen CCCD.

First, I let it stay too long, was hard. Tempered it a bit and the result was something like a creamy, chocolate slushy. Not bad considering the carb count. I doesn't have the consistency of ice cream, maybe it could if cream were added, etc.

I bought the chocolate one because of DS who is a LCer. He really likes it after his workout.

I warmed a cup of it for "hot chocolate". I think it needs just a wee bit of tweaking for personal taste, but not bad at all.

I'm going to play with the frozen version to see what I can come up with. If anybody else discovers a way to enhance the texture, let us know!

Take care~

Hi,
Instructions for "regular" ice cream without an ice-cream freezer call for the mixture to be stirred several times while freezing, to break up the ice crystals and make them smaller. Also, I think you're right, it would only benefit from the addition of some cream. It's possible the lack of sugar is a problem, too, since sugar contributes texture.

I was sooo happy when I found Carb Countdown at my local Shop N Save! Twice after having it, however, I have had intense "carb" headaches, followed by a night of horrible cravings. What a shame. That stuff is YUMMY, but I think I'll have to steer clear.
