I blew it over the holiday - although I only gained two pounds (compared to eight over Thanksgiving). Now I can't seem to get over being hungry. According to fitday, I've had 1900 calories today, 29 grams of carbs, and I still feel hungry. Any hints for controlling hunger until I get back into ketosis. (I've never used the ketostix, but I can tell by the way I feel, and my breath, that I'm no longer in ketosis.) Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Cineluhttp://www.lowcarbeating.com/valchal.gif

Drinking lots of water and maybe exercising may help but I find going back to induction levels for a few days is a sure way to get my appetite back under control. I don't know if that would be the best way as the body does not respond well to yo yo eating. But maybe a few days to get the hunger monster under control

I would suggest that it's a mistake to be counting calories if your aim is to get back into ketosis. My suggestion would be to reduce your carbs and forget the calories, at least until you're back "in the pink" so to speak.

I understand that many lc'ers also count calories. Many of us never did, but everyone has to do what works best for them. However, counting calories while trying to return to ketosis is a very difficult task.

I would suggest that you eat more fat if you are hungry. You shouldn't have to be hungry on this way of eating at any point. If you are hungry, eat. Just, until you return to ketosis, eat foods which are primarily fat/protein, and gradually cut back on the carbs until you are in ketosis and go from there. Always maintain a good vegetable intake while you're doing this. Shave your carbs elsewhere.

If you're not sure whether you're hungry or craving, give yourself the "egg challenge." Hard boiled eggs are an absolutley legal food, but I'm pretty neutral about them. I love eggs in almost any other way but ... hard boiled ... ehhh. When I think I'm hungry, I ask myself if I want a hard boiled egg. If the answer's "no", then I'm not really hungry, just craving. If the answer's "yes"... then I eat one! You can use some other legal food for this, I just picked eggs, since they're a nearly perfect snack food, almost equal parts protein and fat with only a trace of carbs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I forgot to say that I have been exercising - walked three miles a day thursday, friday and saturday, along with some calisthenics, also walked 35 minutes at lunch yesterday. Maggie, I will try the egg challenge. Thanks.

Hi Cinelu, I am right there with you. I went on a sweets eating binge right before Christmas and have not totally got my eating under control yet (I almost made it yesterday, except I made the mistake of letting my 2 DGC order ice cream sundaes for dessert-of course they did not eat them, 3 bites and they were through--I got by with only eating 6 bites, but I blew my no HC sweets goal for the day). I do not seem to be hungrier, I just crave sweets.

I am not only trying to limit my carbs to induction level, I am also doing the egg fast. This has worked for me in the past. I eat eggs twice daily (I guess you could eat them for all meals)and then a meat and veggies for dinner. I also have been drinking gallons of water.

Maggie's egg challenge sounds interesting {leave it to Maggie to be so creative }. I am not crazy about boiled eggs either.

    Good Luck to you!

Great minds think alike.......I was thinking the same thing.......eggs!!!! I did an egg fast for 2 days, and off came 2 lbs. Eggs are always the best thing to grab when you are still hungry. Have some hard boiled ready if you like those. Otherwise however you like them. I slather fried eggs with mayo or LC ketchup and it DOES satisfy. GOOD LUCK!!!!
