If someone has candida, what foods do they need to avoid? I read a list in Atkins but I need some clarification. I don't know if I have it but experimentation shouldn't hurt anything.

Anything with yeast, of course. Cheese, vinegar, nuts (all nuts?) and what exactly are processed meats? Does that include deli meats, bacon, and sausage?

And what about chicken or meat that may have been fed antibiotics?

Are these foods forbidden forever or until things are under control? And how can you tell if they make a difference?

As far as vitamins and so forth, if you are insulin resistant have any of you found that they help lose weight/feel better? I'll take more vitamins if they will help, otherwise it's just an expensive hobby.

Terra, again, I will refer you to my site. There is a much simpler way to deal with candida than Dr. As recommendations. I did that the first go-around. It was grueling and very difficult to do! I didn't go out to eat for 10 months -- it was just impossible!

I believe I answer just about all of these questions in my 2 articles on this site as well as in my personal site.

In general, though, diet alone will not cure candida. You have to be much more aggressive than that. I strongly suggest you find an ND to treat you.

Terra, also, get that book I recommended to you in the other post. It's invaluable. I saw it at Barnes and Noble the other day, so it's still in print.

Yes, anything process meat-wise would be from the deli section of a store. And anything fermented.

You might want to check into Kefir grains and starting to brew your own Kefir. It has many more probiotics than yogurt. It will recolinize your intestines with the beneficial bacteria so needed to fight Candida. Many of us here do it and have grains we can share with instructions. what area are you from, depending on where you live, one of us should be able to send you grains. You may want to check out Dom's Kefir In-site too. Here's a link. It's rather lenghty, so plan to read for awhile: http://users.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html#what's-kefir

Sharron,
Do you recommend the salt cure without eliminating the foods Atkins recommends eliminating? I don't mind giving up hard aged cheese and processed meat because they make me feel so yuck, as do salad dressings and mayo. But olives, mushrooms, and nuts don't seem to have a negative affect and I would like to keep them in my diet.
