Just saw an ad for low carb English Muffins and Italian Bread by Weight Watchers. Haven't been to the store to check the label. Anyone know the per serving carb count? And, more importantly, how do the products taste? Thanks all!!

You're kidding, right? What a bunch of weasels! Atkins bashing is practically a championship sport with WW and now they are trying to cash-in on the low carb products. Just goes to show that you really can't trust any corporation.

Nope, not kidding. Saw it in a Pathmark supermarket ad. I suspect they're just as "low carb" as the Thomas' Reduced Carb Bagels.

For once I wouldn't care how good that product is. I won't buy from a company that on one side condemns "us" and then wants to sell a low carb product to the same people they bash.
Nope, won't do it.

Katrin, I'm with you. That is just a little bit too greedy a corporate policy for me to want to give them my money. They don't want to support a LC plan within their WW framework, but they're happy to relieve us of our money elsewhere. No thanks.

Yep I noticed an ad for Slim Fast low carb the other day. But I wonder if they are full of sugar alcohols?

Do any of you actually attend WW meetings or do you assume WW bashes LC because you heard it somewhere?

A few weeks ago, WW did have a meeting on carbohydrates. They said a number of things, implying that LC-ing works, but that it's likely that people will gain the weight back. However, that is true on any eating plan, if you lose control, the weight goes back on.

They have handouts that give the WW member a choice to balance between carbs and proteins, allow more carbs than proteins if the member chooses, and allows more proteins than carbs, if that's what the member feels comfortable with.

The week WW was discussing carbs. I went to a couple of the meetings that week and spoke up at both of them to explain what Atkins meant the plan to be and how it gets abused by some. No one got mad that I was standing up for a LC way of eating. No one criticized me for LC-ing. I tell the leaders I LC and they are fine with it.

Even since that carb meeting, the WW leaders offer the handouts for clarification and guidance if someone wants to lower their carb intake. (or increase it)

This hypocrisy makes me hostile. It's just another way that the less-than-ethical people running these companies attempts to take advantage of the market place. I am constantly amazed at how often such companies underestimate the consumer. I am not stupid. I, and everyone else on this board, have made sure to educate myself about my lifestyle and way of eating. Underneath this product ploy, WW is running scared. The LC woe goes counter to everything that WW has preached for years, and they stand to lose a LOT of money.

The WW plan in the 1970's was quite LC. Now, the member has the choice of what to eat.

Ilse, you must have been posting at the same time I was - I haven't attended a WW meeting in several years, so you are right, I have no first hand knowledge of what is being said in meetings. Point taken. I have, however, read information that has been posted on WW site (past) and articles quoting WW spokespersons, in which a very negative view of LC is portrayed. My issue is this: things change, If your product changes and you decide that your mission is now different based on prevailing healkth information, great. But, please, inform me as the consumer that this is the case. It is unethical to say one thing and do another, which is what WW has done.

I have read on the WW-site just today. They still give uninformed info about low-carbing that is not favorable. It states, that eating fewer carbs lowers the calorie intake and that is why one loses weight. It also reads there
"Extreme diets that cut out all sorts of carbs don't provide lasting weight loss." and
"Many carbs – including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and milk products – provide essential nutrients that are vital to good health."

"There's nothing to be gained by eliminating carb- rich fruit or gorging yourself on protein- rich meat"

WW may not "condemn" low carb outright, but in a round-about way by making us sound like freaks.

Never give up! Never surrender!
