Angelette,

I find a cup of chamomile tea helps me a lot.

But usually what I do is turn the tv on with the volume really low. I have a timer on my tv (it's called my hubby, LOL ) no, but I do put the timer on and in 10 mins, I'm out like a light.

Jeez, I take anti-depressants to go to sleep... Heh...

I hear good things about chamomile, too.

Valerian is an herb that you can find in most stores. It's not something you would want to make tea out of. (It smells like dirty socks. Really. Reeeeeally.) It will knock you out very effectively.

I agree with Rob...i still take Melatonin to this day...i never slept well all my life...one of them light sleepers...ive started to take Melatonin which is the all natural...they say to take 1 tablet (3mg) but i take 1/4 of it which is enough for me...or 1/2 if i go overseas and jetlag...a friend of mine has been taken it for years...and shes still normal...LOL..thank god shes not reading this..anyhow...it does work and do read the web page that Rob posted cause it says it all and i believe before taking ANY form of med or natural to read up on it BEFORE taking them...well thats only my opinion..

take care

Melatonin is a hormone or hormone precursor, so it's wise to check with your doctor about it. I believe you can get your hormone levels checked.
And it is something that is supposed to be taken a certain way. It can be tricky.

I usually try a really dense book (like my old microeconomics text, or history). I love to read, but I'm usually toast after ten minutes of that stuff. Tip: read such books while lying on your side in order to avoid bruising face when book drops.

Hi, I am new to the forum and to LC eating. I started the South Beach Diet on Jan 2. And I am not sleeping. At all. I'm tired, but I can't sleep! I tried valerian last night and it really relaxed me. So I was tired and relaxed, and I still didn't sleep.

Do you think it's part of the induction phase for me? I was such a carbo-junkie, so this is a complete 180 degree eating turnaround for me. If it's part of my body's way of getting used to not having constant sugar spikes and drops, then maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel (but how long is this tunnel???). I feel like I am rambling, I'm sorry. I'm just really tired, and getting desperate. Thanks in advance for any help.

My own experience has been that I'm more hyper when I'm losing weight quickly. For instance, at the beginning of the diet, I was VERY hyper. It tapers off after a while.

Sorry the valerian didn't help. You could also try eating turkey near bedtime. Turkey contains L-tryptophan, and that can induce sleepiness. I find that a couple of ibuprofen also make me drowsy.

If all else fails, find something useful but tedious to do while you're burning the midnight oil. For instance, I post on here, heh heh

This is kind of bizarre, but when I can't sleep I get up and put on perfume. I guess that's just my own weird form of aromatherapy. I also swear by Badger Sleep Balm, but I've only ever been able to find it in the Cracker Barrel restaurant stores. (No, it doesn't smell like or contain badgers.)

Thank you all SO MUCH for your suggestions. Some I have tried, some I will try. I didn't sleep last night again, this is really getting bad. I am seeing my doctor today about it. Thanks again!
