| Back in 1987, after some blood tests, a doctor told me that he thought I might have a brain tumor affecting my hypothalamus. He wanted me to get an MRI to verify it. I was a computer consultant at the time and raking in big money. I've had very lean years since then because of various health problems, but those were good times. For all that money though, I couldn't get health insurance anywhere. You see, when the doctor told me I might have a tumor, I decided to get some insurance before I got the MRI so I could pay for any medical treatment. I'm so clever, huh? However, back in the late 1980's, you couldn't get medical insurance that easily if you were overweight. Now, I had studied economics. I believed in the free market and was a hardcore republican. It seemed to me that everything should have a price. If I'm a higher risk because of my weight, they should just charge more, right? Well, they all informed me, nope, that's not the way "things are done." They would insure people with a host of health problems including AIDS and diabetes, but at that time, if you were overweight, good luck. I lucked out. I got the MRI; there was no tumor. However, it changed my mind about the perfection of health insurance in this country. ************** "Sometimes I think you have to march right in and demand your rights, even if you don't know what your rights are, or who the person is you're talking to. | For me it was after a visit my DH cardiologist. He told my husband that he needed to lose weight or plan for a grave site within 2 years. He had tested high for glucose and his cholesteral was through the roof. DH's cardiologist recommended Atkins. We decided to go on it the very next day. (prior to appt I had just gone shopping and had a bunch of non low carb things). We came home made a list of the other things we needed and went shopping again. The kids finished what we couldn't eat and we have never gone back. Beckie 257/219/150 http://www.lowcarbeating.com/valchal.gif/img] |

| Four years ago I joined the Weight Watchers program and lost 20 lbs. in 6 months, but then hit a plateau and did not lose anything (kept losing and gaining the same lb. week after week) while my wallet got thinner but I didn't. Plus, I was HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. Since beginning Atkins, I have not been hungry. Well, OK I was for 2 days when I tried the wacky "fat fast" but that's over since I am in ketosis now. My daughter, who is getting married next month, was very chubby as a teenager. We did WW together but she did not like it. Last year she went on a low carb WOE and has lost 25 lbs. She is absolutely DROP DEAD GORGEOUS and will be wearing a size 4 wedding gown. 172/167/110. In ketosis since 1/7/2004! Atkins since 12/01/2003. |

| Hi everyone, I decide to go on Atkins after the low fat diets didn't work. I was at a all time low and talked to my Vice president and he told me he had lost a lot a weigh 15 yrs ago on Atkins. So well I was desperate I tried it. 6 months later I was 50 lbs lighter and 5 sizes smaller. travellost |
