| I have a confession to make. I love beans and througout my entire atkins success, i never stoped eating them, (still loss 25 lbs in 4 months) so my question is, now that it's my second time around on this wol, should i consider leaving them? do others incorporate them in their wol? I eat them at least 4 times a week, each serving in 8 grams of fiber, maybe that's why they don't make me gain weight; it's a guarnteed trip to the bathroom. Started 3/20/03 thru 9/2003 Restarted 1/2/04, this time i will finish what i started. 180-160-140 |

| What kind of beans are you talking about? Green beans, refried beans? Green beans are a legal food at any time. If it is refried beans you are speaking of, they are allowed later on. But to me it's all a matter also on how you can handle it. If you still lose while eating them - I'd say, go ahead! You'll have to figure it out for yourself. It also depends on portion size and what you eat with them. Never give up! Never surrender! Katrin |

| My favorites are red and black beans , not refried like they use for burritos, more in the form of thick split pea soup (also a favorite of mine). I also like lentils. For example this morning (this may sound gross to some of you) i had lentils with crispy bacon and some mild salsa (the one used for tortilla chips)and then i had some cottage cheese on the side. All together, my net carbs were 16 grams with 10grms of fiber (about 400 calories for those who vaguley keep track). for lunch today i'm planning to have some roasted chicken with 1 cup of spinach with 1tsp of melted cream cheese and 1 cup of split pea soup. Again this will have at least 10 grms of fiber, keeping me extremley regualar even if i don't drink a gallon of water. | I eat beans too. I love them and have lots of dried ones left from pre-LC days so want to use them up. I only have them once or twice a week with some kind of meat, salsa and sour cream too. So far no stall from them, and of course they are higher carbs than some veggies so are best for when your carb level gets high enough to work them in. YMMV type of thing. Deannie 270/244/125 |

| I am a firm believer in whatever works for you. You already know you can eat them and lose, so why not? If you discover that your loss stalls, maybe consider eating fewer. I think any diet, low carb or otherwise, is a very personal thing. And what works for some won't work for others and vice versa. 400/338/200 |

| It is so good to know that some people DO eat beans. I have been wanting some lima beans but I'm scared to think it till Maintenance. I am about to move to Pre Maintenance after a few pounds. I might get bold and fix me a nice pot of lima beans cooked down with ham and onions. mmm. 213.5/162.5/147 Size 22/12/8-10?? Started Low-Carbing 5/23/03 Started Atkins 6/11/03 |

| There ARE some beans which are more LC friendly than others - black soybeans, either canned or dried, which come out to 1 ECC per half cup, and small red beans, about which there is a thread somewhere here on the boards - I think under the Cooking forum. I haven't tried the red, but I like the black - Eden Farms puts them up in cans, which I've found at Whole Foods, and I've bought the dried variety online after doing a search for "dried black soybeans" - they are very good too but take much longer to cook than regular beans. I did mine on a "quick soak" - covered with water, brought to a boil, then let sit an hour - and then put them into the crockpot, but they took a good 12 hours to get edible! Next time I'm gonna soak them overnight before cooking. With spices, meat, whatever, they are tasty AND low carb! Char Don't squat with yer spurs on! |

| AllieCat - You should have no problem with lima beans. I eat them all the time. Limas are low on the glycemic index (32) and have a low glycemic load (10), so they shouldn't cause any cravings. And they're VERY filling, so you don't need to eat a lot to feel satisfied. Half a cup has 20 grams of carbs, with 7 grams of fiber (13g ECC). You should have no problem working that into pre-Maintenance (I eat them in OWL without issue) if you pair it with a pure protein and a salad for a meal. | ATlynn, you took the words right out of my mouth. There are lots of beans that are low GI and GL. That is something I am going to look into.
