I admit it. I played hookey today and caught a matinee of The Lord of the Rings. Woohoo! But this raises a low-carb question--especially during the big holiday movie season.

What do YOU munch on in movies, if anything?

I've long since given up movie junk food. I do just fine with just the movie--especially this one! But still, that buttered popcorn smell just about kills me sometimes.

Anybody have a snack they take to the movies? This could be good for cocooning at home, too.

The classics are nuts and cheese. Many people also like beef jerky. We’ve also taken veggie sticks to munch on too.

One of my favorites is Crystalized Pecans. I bake them in the oven with butter and splenda and then toss with more splenda after they cool a little. Toasted coconut goes well with them too. Make for a nice crunchy, sweet treat.

Now and then, we splurge and have popcorn but we bring our own butter! LOL We put it in a seal a meal bag and then melt it on top of the engine right before going in to the theater. I snip it with my Swiss Army and then pour it over the theater popcorn. Much better than eating their fake oil stuff!

My husband and I like to take some Atkins Crunchers with dip or pork rinds. We also nibble on sun flower seeds with hulls (we love the "Spitz Spicy" ones.

Never give up! Never surrender!

Guess I'm going to have to come prepared for L O R 'cuz it's such a long movie. I am worried about not being able to drink anything if there's no intermission. I don't think I can go almost 4 hrs without the potty. DH and I are going to have to wait 'til next week to see it 'cuz we get free tickets as my stepson works at the big 30 theater. We can't go for free opening week.

Barb, was it as good as they say????? I can hardly wait. I see in the previews they have the Oelepants back. They were AWESOME in the second movie. And the Tree Ents were amazing. I LOVED them. (I just wish they would have talked a bit faster, LOL)

HHHHHHHMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm I guess I will be bringing nuts and maybe a few almond cookies. DH can get his own stuff. He still eats candy. I LOVE popcorn which I do have once in a great while, but with a movie this long I'm afraid I would buy a big one and eat the whole thing. AND need a BIG drink. (are bedpans allowed in theaters????? )

I smuggled in some Cheddar Cheese Crunchies -- at least I think that is what they are called. They are the cheese coated pork rinds. I also got us some s/f chocs that were on sale and we shared them. Brought my own water, as I'm too cheap to pay $4 for a medium sized soda!

Blessings!

DH and I are going to have a date night on Saturday! We have waited with bated breath for Return Of The King ever since The Two Towers lowered the credits! LOL Lord Of The Rings was one of our favorite books as kids.
I'm glad to get some ideas on what to smuggle in. I will have to switch to the bigger purse.

I'm wearing my big coat with the deep pockets. LOL. A bottle of water even fits down in there. do theaters even sell water? You know, if they provided stuff we could eat, we might even buy it there. Nah.....too expensive, but that's REALLY what the theaters make their money on.

I feel the need to eat at the movies because, well, er..........um.......something to do with my hands? It's just something that's been bred into us Americans I guess. You know, all that advertizing and brain washing.......and subliminal messages they flash on the screen, LOL.

I absolutely hate people that eat at the movies. I don't mind people that talk out loud about the movie -- in a way, that encourages a sense of community with the experience -- but eating is just NOISY, SMELLY, STICKY AND IRRITATING. I especially hate people eating anything in cellophane wrappers, like tortilla chips.

Really, I do hate it. I HATE it.

Already filled with the holiday spirit, eh, Dr. I?

When I used to go to the movies, I didn't care what anyone ate as long as it prevented them from keeping a running commentary within my earshot.

I don't go to movies. Among other things, the seats make my back hurt because my feet don't touch the floor.

I'll see the last part of the trilogy when it comes out on dvd - in comfort, with some friends (so that running commentary can take on a Mystery Science Theatre atmosphere, yet we can go back and see what we missed) with my feet up, with all the water and potty breaks I desire ... and an ashtray in case I'm so inclined.

Anyway, I already know how it ends; I read the books. I can wait.

Movie food makes me want to go right now. Want a date with my husband Saturday thanks for the idea. I smuggle too! I wear a big pocket jacket like Barb and take peanuts, Akins candy sliced thin in bite size pieces. Something about salt and sweet that makes a movie and we have to go for the $4.00 coke. How sweet it is!! And Dr I have you ever pasted by NJ and met Zip?

OMG.. I love movie popcorn. HOw ever.. I am awefull.. when it is a movie that I just can't wait to see (i.e. L O R, harry potter, matrix) I just eat popcorn. I can pass on the sweets. That don't bother me. When we do go to a theater that isn't something that a big deal like those I just stuff my backpack purse with tons of legal stuff like cheese, crunchers, sometimes a low carb bar and nuts.

MaryD .. it does sound like something zip would say don't it? LOL I have been wondering why he has not made it back to the boards when it switched over.

Actually I'm with Maggie - I won't go to the movie theaters any more. The chairs make my back hurt, I have a chronic SI joint strain/low back strain that acts up if I sit in one position too long.

Can't stand the cell phones, people talking, knocking into the back of my seat, etc.; sticky floor, yuck! So I wait for the DVD. MUCH better in my jammies with a cat in my lap and my goodies close at hand AND a potty nearby!
