I started induction last Monday and was doing what I thought was a great job.
However, through reading posts I have learned that I can't trust labels. Everyday I was eating a Russel Stover's low carb chocholate. It claims to only have .4 carbs in it per piece. However, now I know about sugar alchols.
the back says it has 24 carbs, 1 dietary fiber and 19 sugar alcohol ( I guess the companies subtract sugar alcohol as well )
I was only eating half a serving (one piece), so I thought I was getting .4 carbs but i was really getting 12. Is this right?
Anyway, I am pretty bummed and feeling discouraged that this may have ruined my first week. Is this why I only lost four pounds (all water weight).
I'm having a tought day today because I am so upset. I even had a diet coke today. I haven't had soda since last week.
I know it sounds silly, but I feel like sitting down and crying right now. (I'm a teacher and I am sure my students would love that)

Awww Seesko

Don't worry about where you posted, this is fine.

IMHO, you don't need to start over. What you ate isn't that big a deal for you or you wouldn't have lost the 4 pounds already. If you want to extend induction a little longer, fine, but you really don't need to start over.

I agree with Brighty. I like the Russell Stover pecan delights. I'm not effected by the sugar alcohols if I only eat a piece or two. I think if it doesn't stall you or give you gastric distress, then it truly is ok to minus the SA as well as the fiber. YMMV.

You are fine. Just keep on keeping on and save the LC candy for after induction.

I had to start over too. We need a clean induction. I think I also remember you had a subway wrap as well, which would be a no no on induction and while yes it is better than a footlong sub, we need to get everything out of our system first! Good luck

You'll get the hang of it! Don't worry. After all, this is going to be a lifelong journey that really works for you! No hurry.

Hint: The Russell Stover Low Carb chocolates are identical to the Russell Stover Sugar Free chocolates--only at twice the price. Buy the sugar free for your occasional treat.

If you feel you need to re-do induction, then do it. But it isn't neccisary either. Whatever you feel is right for you. If you do decide to re-start...avoid any and all l/c convenience foods. Keep it simple for those 2 weeks. It will be sooo worth it in the end

Thanks for all the nice comments. I am feel ing much better. I have decided to add a week to my induction. My husband says I should not call it starting over since I did loose weight the first week. I guess I will call it pre-induction and tomarrow is the real thing. I believe I got everything down and will do it correctly. (no subway wraps or candy)

I sat down and finished watching the Atkins videos my friend gave me. i had read the book like 5 years ago, but it was an old version (didn't even mention net carbs).

Thanks

Good luck all!!

4 pounds is wonderful!!! The bars are something that should be used as a "Emergency" food or they should just remain in the "Maintanence" portion of this program. But, you did fine. Don't be so glum chum. Induction is hard but,I remain on it til nearly all of my weight that I want to lose it gone and then I slowly incorporate the low carb fruits and some bars, because I like them too! Most people I think go on Induction the two weeks and then go into OWL. Everyone is different. I like Induction; I lose alot of weight quick and I don't feel like I am going to snap and binge; there's no hunger and at the end of the week for weigh in...I am usually a happy camper. Dr. Atkin's states that you can stay on Induction as long as you are feeling ok and you are overweight.
Hang in there and you will do fine. Just cut the bars and see what happens.
