I found this great 64oz sized jug specifically promoting water intake at my local Walmart. It was about $4. It is plastic, insulated and has all kinds of water facts printed on the outside. I picked it up as an easy way to keep track of the water I'm drinking... just need to down 1 1/2 to 2 of these for the day, and can carry it all over, plus it stays cold.

Thought others on this board might be interested in something like this.

That's neat, Mada. I'll have to look for one. I really need to work on my water intake again...

Walgreens has a similar jug type of water bottle. It is made out of polycarbonite (sp?) or whatever type of plastic that does not absorb smells or flavors. It is a 64 oz, and is designed specifically to get your daily water intake of 8-8oz glasses. My b/f loves it! He will have to aim to drink 1.5-2 of these a day though to meet his water goals. It was a very small investment ($3) to keep him on track with his water. As he drives a delivery truck, and finds it hard to drink enough water when out on the road.

Not gonna quit!

On the topic of water bottles..

BRITA offers a water bottle (sports type) with a replacable carbon filter in the mouth piece. I'm not sure the size of it (about a quart). It's a pain to have to keep refilling but its the only solution I was able to come up with at work for the nasty tasting water from the water fountains. I cannot afford to continually buy bottle water. It has greatly improved my water intake since I bought it. It says to replace the filter ever 10 gallons but I'm sure you can stretch that easily. The bottle was about $5.00 bucks and two replacement filters ran about 3 or 4 dollars at WALMART.

Just FYI...

Doc,

I read somewhere (sorry! can't remember where!) that plastics in soda bottles, plastic cups can over time leach out some of the chemicals in the bottles right into your water. They can also absorb odors and tastes.

That said, I also reuse plastic fast food cups or soda bottles for my water. I just make sure I toss out my current bottle or cup every couple of days and start with a new one.

The other issue about reusing plastic bottles (either bottles which contained something else or bottles we buy for the purpose) is that frankly most of us don't wash them out as frequently and thoroughly as we should. Doesn't take much for bacteria to multiply. I usually try to have at least two bottles--one to go and one in the diswasher.

Heh... I've been using the same ones since last summer.

I really worry that even in a dishwasher, those bottles get clean. My sis reuses her bottles and has come down with a bad systemic infection. There is no proof that her infection came from the bottles, but she finally thru them all out and is using either new or the big cup like Mada has. There is so much influenza, colds, and crud out there right now, we need to do all we can to help halt the spread.
Just my thoughts on the bottles.

Jackie, you're probably right about the really small-necked ones. I'm using bike bottles which have a little larger neck, but I do think the "big cup" idea is probably the best.

I also refill those water bottles, but I try to replace them about every 2 weeks to a month. Also as BC said, it is easy for bacteria to get in there. Probably wouldn't grow much without a carbon source, but it is still not a good thing.
