Is it just me or has anybody noticed that LCE (or Atkins) exposure seems to be exploding over the last few weeks. We see all these companies coming out with their products and trying to beat each other to market (Hardees, Subway, etc). Today I get in my car and turn the radio on. There are two DJs chatting away and the first thing I hear is "...they aught to just build a restaurant and call it ATKINS..." Yeah you're right..." Then one goes on to mention that some new steak restaurant is coming to town and their commercial states "Will be the Atkins Headquarters for the Hampton Roads area...". They did not state the name but I'm assuming its just a marketing gimmick to push their steaks.

I know I'm a little obsessed with the whole LC way of life but it just feels like something about Atkins and LCE is just showing up every 10 minutes on TV or radio recently... Maybe its just a local thing...

I think you're right Wolfman...it is a bit of a revolution.

My fear with this (and I'm sure this has been mentioned here before) is that low carbing will go the way of a low fat diet. With all the companies coming out with low carb replacement foods it is going to give people the idea that they can fill their diet with these convenience items. In the end that's not really what this woe is all about. It's about keeping it clean and eating unprocessed, whole, real foods.

I know that I bought into some of the low fat items (specifically Snackwells cookies) and in the end, IMHO, these products have been detrimental to people's health...never mind their weight loss efforts.

It will be interesting to see where this all goes. As for me...I will continue to resist most of these new products (I hope!!).

Just my 2 cents!

That's what I am seeing in my area also. All the "hoopla" just to make money and we saw this happen with the low-fat era. Speaking of the "money grabbers" don't know if this is happening in your area but just this week every time I turn around I am hearing big promos for By-pass surgery. On TV just about every hour one medical group has a big (paid lots of money for) prime time space advertising the surgery. I know if one's health is in danger it might be a must but I am afraid it might be drawing in those that just need to work through the issue at hand and still have a quality life. Anyway my deep concern is don't take advantage of us for a dollar! Now that's off my chest..thanks for listening!

I also have seen a very large amount of "low carb" products hitting the market. The thing that worries me is that some of these products have very starchy things in them(ie, the Smart Ones lower carb meals) and tons of artificial things which stall many people. The Keep-it-simple-stupid plan towards Atkins always works the best. The bars and meals should be a once in a while treat. That being said, i'd like to try the low carb doritos.

Wow, I guess its not just local then.

And I am also concerned about the bars and products advertised as "Low Carb" when they are chuck full of sugar alcohols that stall ya or send ya running to the bathroom (even Atkins own bars..)

I am interested in the Doritos too (miss um big time). I habe not read the artical yet but I'm assuming its still going to be a "luxury item" for this WOE as a very occasional reward.

Your right the food industry has finally tapped into this woe and like always everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. It's that same old thing of "lets make all the money we can off of these obese people that would pay anything to be normal". If it sounds like I have a chip on my shoulder, well I guess I do. Please make sure your getting what they say you are. All they have to do is change a label to say their product is low carb, it doesn't mean that it really is low carb! But they will make the bucks anyway and some poor souls will be wondering why in the heck they are gaining weight while eating this low carb food. Just be careful, if it has flour or sugar in the ingredients don't trust the low carb label. Just my 2 cents worth.

The one thing they're missing is telling everyone they HAVE TO READ THE BOOK!!! When someone orders one of those meals they should put in a little leaflet pamphlet about READING THE BOOK. There are going to be SOOO many people who whine and say "It didn't work for me!" But all of these people that come here to these books can tell the less informed ones the IMPORTANCE of reading the book and not blindly trust those money grubbing idiots in the food industry!
