I am soooo happy to finally see that since Jan 04 everything around me is finally LOW CARB! As we long time low carbers know that it started a long time ago for us But...I am so happy to see that "They" are finally catching on. From the newspapers; to "Subway" with their Atkin's roll ups; to the supermarkets with isles belonging to low carb things strickly; to the 7/11 across the street from my house....the sign above the door reads" JOIN THE LOW-CARB REVOLUTION" I just smiled and thought Dr. Atkins would be so happy to see that his "brillant" idea that he had 30 plus years ago is no longer being frowned apon.

And I feel that I am no longer on my own either. I feel that things are a bit easier. Asking for the burger without the bun will no longer be like asking for the peanut butter without the jelly. And when people who haven't seen me ask....How did you lose so much weight? I don't think the look of UGH will be on their faces anylonger. I guess being accepted feels a little better espeically when others are more educated...truly educated about this way of life.

But,the sweetest taste really is knowing that I joined the "revolution" 4 years ago!
Kudos!!! Kudos!!!

Good for you for staying LC for four years. It shows that it can really be a way of life. People ask me all the time how long I plan on staying on my diet. My usual reponse is, "I am not on a diet". I try to explain that I plan on eating this way forever, not quit when I loss weight.

I am trilled that LC has received so much attention {positive attention-that is}. My Kroger's now has a wide variety of LC foods. I bought BBQ sauce yesterday. This was something I really had been missing. Now if suppliers realize there are lots of people who will buy their products maybe the prices will come down. Whew! Are these foods expensive .

Let it never be said that American ingenuity will ignore a chance to make a buck! And I'm all for it.

Last week, the four flyers I get from the grocery store chains in this area (Safeway, Albertson's, Ralph's and Nob Hill) EACH had a "low carb section" - that's pretty progressive and very very cool!!

It must mean we are becoming as mainstream as the "low fat revolution" at least!

I'm still scratching my head why one of my local grocery stores phased out their Atkins stuff. What are they NUTS????? Everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon and it seems they are cutting their nose off to spite their face, I just don't get it. So.........I shop in other stores more often now. Oh well, their loss. Hey PQ, Welcome back!!!!

Yeah. Ain't it cool? It's the invisible hand of the marketplace. Thank you Adam Smith, for pointing it out.

Yeah, almost everyone is jumping on the band wagon. We drove past a Western Sizzlin the other day. Their marquee said "Our steaks are low carb!"

Well, duh! Sounds like they are implying that other restaurants steaks AREN'T low carb.

It also helps that the Atkins "craze" hit right around the 1st of the year, when everyone is making New Years Resolutions. All the ads everywhere are about fitness and nutrition.

Not gonna quit!

Barb:

Yanno what? I still don't tuck my shirt in. I think it has to do with the fact that I am short waisted combined with large breasts = tucking my shirt in emphasizes that fact and I look hideous. If I ever get the money to do it, I'm thinking of having a breast reduction (not simply for aesthetics...their weight makes my back hurt like you wouldn't believe).

I saw your recent pics. Man oh man, what a difference! You look fantastic! They say that the camera adds 10 pounds of weight....girl, I don't know how you're going to lose 9 more pounds to get to your goal...it doesn't look like you have it to spare. Your face sure looks slim now, too.

I bet you're just breaking your arm patting yourself on the back. If not, you should be. Gads, what an inspiration you are!

Oh thanks April!!!! I am short waisted too, but since I'm not as "well endowed" as you, I guess I never thought of that aspect. And YOU look DANG good yourself!!!!!! I still have some flab in the tummy area that bugs the heck out of me. But if I never lost another pound I would be fine with that. DH said, "Don't get tooooo skinny." He likes a little meat on his woman's bones. I just want to get rid of a little more of the flab around the middle. I'm hoping Curves will eventually take care of that. But the best of all, I feel GREAT!!!!! And you are an inspiration to me too April, and not only with what you've accomplished with your body and soul, but the way you help out here. HUGS,

Barb:

My hubby says the same thing. When I tell him that the weight charts would have me ideally weighing about 150 pounds, he says: "That's toooo skinny!" He says he wants something to hold on to.

Oh, by the way...he and I were discussing just what constitutes a BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) and I asked him if I were considered a BBW. He hesitated (just like every man should before he treads into quicksand) and said: "I believe you are a borderline BBW because BBW's wear sizes 16/18 and up."

I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream. I wanted to vow that I'd never eat again.

Even at my goal weight, my clothes size would be a 12/14. Probably a 14. I wear 16's now.

It's odd how I measure my self worth by my clothes size. Not always, but mostly.

Sorry for the ramble.

Awwwwww, April, you are a much valued person!!! You are NOT your weight. We get so messed up with our self-image versus our body image. And you are a beautiful woman no matter what your body is. You just have no idea how many people you have helped here, ME included. Keep your chin up girlfriend!!!! You matter to ME!!!!!!

What an inspiration you are Barb! I have been thinking about goals and guess being under 200 would be good...moving the 200 bar to 150 that would be the first one. (Baby steps) and then I would like to get back to the 12's but you know I like the look of 8's though.....hmmmm
Short term goals an then long!

Thanks Again Barb!!

PQ, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. That's how weight loss has to be too. You got it, baby steps. AND the health benefits are so worth it. You know, I have adopted the attitude, "I DON'T eat that," thanks to a post by Maggie. Instead of thinking, "I can't eat that," I just now know that I DON'T eat that. This mind set really helps one get through the rough times. PLUS, I am always making stuff that I DO eat, so when a craving hits, I find something that will satisfy it. I think that's the secret to success. And I surround myself with allowed stuff. But I have gotten to a point now when I am at a party or at relatives (was hard during the holidays) I play my internal dialog: "I don't eat that." Plus, another internal dialog I play is, "I am worth it to eat healthy now. I deserve to eat healthy. I don't deserve the punishment junk food and crappy stuff will do to my body." I wish this mind set for everyone. We're ALL worth it!!!!!!
