I don't know why I have never thought about buying the plain yogurt and flavoring it myself. Not a bad idea! I usually buy the Dannon carb and sugar control smoothies. My walmart usually only carries the strawberries and cream flavor but I have also seen them carry the peaches and cream. I have tried them both and they are both good. They are sweetened with splenda and have 4 net carbs per serving.

Plain Greek yogurt is even lower in carbs. Put a few drops of sweetzfree and a touch of vanilla or strawberry extract, and it's totally wunnerful!!

This sounds like the addition I need. Especially for breakfast as I sometimes want something quick and not cooked. I love yogurt and it so good for you.

Shelly, I will definitely get some of that greek yogurt and fix it like you said. I have seen it at the store before but never knew what to do with it. Thanks for the great idea!

Amber, YW!
It's very "decadent"...totally works for a dessert with a few sliced strawberries or raspberries on top! Yum-O!

I'm right on with Shelley, here. Since having found Greek Yogurt (it's strained, so that it is a bit higher in fat and protein and lower in carbs) I can have some every so often - in moderate amounts. A really nice treat for me.

Okay, this is what I did. I used some of the Stonyfield yogurt with the cream on top! Mmmmm! That was good with nothing added to it. Could have eaten it that way. Anyway, I put the yogurt, some canned pumpkin and some squirts of my favorite DiVinci's SF Gingerbread syrup, added some cloves (my favorite spice!) and some nutmeg. I don't have the bullet things so I used my electric hand mixer to whip it up.........omg! It was so good. Pumpkin pie in a glass! I'm going to be trying more flavors of this.

Kat,
You can make your own 'Greek' yogurt.
Simply line a seive with cheesecloth or paper coffee filters, and suspend over a bowl deep enough that the drained off whey won't touch the seive.
Let it drain in the fridge for at least 3 hours; overnight is even better.
The resulting product , is also sometimes called *yogurt cheese*.
It is wonderfully thick and luscious, and also has more protein per serving.
There is some debate, but this article suggests that the carb count goes down when the whey is drained off.
I use Dannon plain, full fat yogurt to make my Greek yogurt. Then, as I mentioned above, I add sweetzfree, and an extract if it's going to be used for a dessert; I leave it plain and unsweetened if I'm going to make a savory dip or salad dressing with it.

I bought Oikos organic plain yogurt about six months back. It's made by Stonyfield. I didn't realize until i took a taste that I had bought the fat free version (which i knew by that first taste). My market doesn't carry any full fat Greek yogurts and I won't be buying Oikos again. I'll probably just use a coffe filter and a strainer to filter my stonyfield plain yogurt but I almost always pour out the whey that inevitably separates out once it sits opened for a day or more.

Update: I went back to my market and they now carry a full fat greek yogurt called Fage. delicious! 6g carb per 7 oz serving.

Rob,
My grocery store stopped carrying the 8 oz containers of Oikos, (which were pricey, I thought) and went to the 12 oz container for > $4.25 !!!! That's beyond ridiculous!!!!!
So, straining my own at less than half the price for twice as much, makes it REALLY worthwhile. I mean I'm not a tightwad by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't throw $$$$ into the wind either! LOL!

I like to strain my kefir (using coffee filter inside a little plastic weave bucket that I got from the dollar store) and put a mason jar full of water on top of it to weight it. After 24 hours the result is something that is very much like fresh goat cheese.

If I sprinkle some salt and finely chopped herbs from the garden it reminds me of boursin.
