If you've read the Yogurt Exception (http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/yogurt.html), you may contemplate including yogurt in your menu if you haven't already. I did it for about a month with good losses and am considering it again since I am just 15 lb from goal. Curious as to how many of you enjoy yogurt? Dannon Plain in the 32oz carton is the one I have had.

This is interesting. Did Dr. Atkins ever say anything about yogurt? I think I am going to look it up in DANDR; otherwise it sounds like an interesting possible addition

I know that my mom eats some kind of yogurt that is sweetened with Splenda. If I'm right, it had about 14 or so carbs per container. Too much for me at this point, but no one says I have to eat a whole one at a time.

I think yogurt is a YMMV issue. I understand the theory in the article in lowcarbluxury, but my glucometer doesn't. I was hoping it was true, because I used to love yogurt; made my own.

For me, the good news is that I get a much more acceptable reaction from kefir. So I can have my probiotics and eat them - well drink them anyway-, so to speak.

Stonyfield makes a cream on the top yogurt that is so delicious. It's higher in fat than other full fat yogurts I've tried, but that means lower in carbs. I never eat more than 1/2 a cup at a time though. Why push my luck.

Rob, that full fat yogurt by SF is awesome! So is the one made by Brown Cow. My kids eat it like it was ice cream.

And I vote for kefir too - awesome stuff there. There have been a few articles in the past year about people who consume dairy products having less trouble losing weight and lower percentage of body fat - something to do with the calcium.

I enjoy a yogurt/kefir from time to time. It didn't have any noticeable effect one way or another. I typically do the plain. Once in a while I add some suger free syrup (Da Vinci, Torani). It is a nice change of pace.

I didn't believe the article, although I'll try to keep an open mind for other people's sake.

I looked into it a little bit, though, because I used to **LOVE** yogurt. I used to binge on that stuff.

The theory that yogurt carbs are lower than the actual packaging comes from a book called The Go Diet. The author of the Go Diet has a forum somewhere online. I went through it, trying to see how much justification he had for his statement about the carbs in yogurt. It turns out a lot of people disagree with him and he doesn't like to discuss the matter anymore because of all the flack he's had.

I recently discussed this with an interesting guy I met at Vitamin Center, a health food store here in Long Beach. It turns out the owner is a CSULB grad (it's about a 1/4 mile away), who's graduate study area was in fermentation sciences. His opinion was that the calories in the yogurt have to go somewhere. It isn't all converted into lactic acid. During fermentation of milk products, a lot of it is converted into different kinds of alcohols, including ethyl alcohol and even our old friends, the sugar alcohols.

Thanks for all the replies! I did it for a month from the end of Sept 03 till the end of Oct 03 and my losses were the same as always (6.5 pounds for the month).

I have been at 162.5 since 12/28 (my normal post-TOM non losing time) but felt I needed to make it move. So I had yogurt for breakfast and lunch Saturday, and for breakfast, lunch, and dinner Sunday. I got about 1400 cals both days. Both days I also ate meat (bacon, ground beef, chicken wings etc) and also added pecans and strawberries to the yogurt. This morning I am at 161 so I think what really makes it move is the actual CHANGE in the diet. I plan to rotate it, maybe have it for a few days every 2 weeks or something like that.

Well I use yogurt cheese which you can add water (or sugarfree flavor like I do) and it makes yogurt. The small handmixer work best to get it smooth. It has a slightly different taste but it is only 4 carbs per 1/2 cup. The reason is they have drained all the milk out and I believe it is the milk that cause the carbs to go up.

I am back on inductance and I miss it terrible because it is my breakfast food. When I went on a flight recently I just took out my yogurt with real fruit and ate. It tasted great.

Allie - you made me go out and buy yogurt today.

Connie - yes that yogurt is incredibly creamy.

Dr I - That's why i limit myself to 1/2 a cup or 6.5 g carbs, I think, according to the label.

I buy the Blue Bunny Yogurt, Lite 85. It is fat free, no sugar added and sweetened w/Splenda. It is 6 oz, with a total of 80 calories, and 14 g of carbs, 9g being sugar. I only have half a carton in a day, and I haven't noticed any problems. It is a good treat, and they have a lot of flavors!

Not gonna quit!

I've used the Dannon plain without worries (can't find any pre-sweetened/Spleda brands here), but I use it more as a desert, adding splenda and strawberries (sometimes blending in frozen strawberries for "instant" frozen yogurt).

I eat a 1/2 cup plain yogurt (mixed with 1 packet of Splenda), 1/2 cup sliced Strawberries and 2 tbsp. of walnuts every weekday morning for breakfast.

It is by far my favorite meal of the day!
