Hi there everyone, I have been on the South Beach Diet for 2 weeks and have lost 4 pounds and that's on a good day so I am switching to Atkins. I lost 50 pounds 4 years ago on Atkins but have put back on 15 so I want that gone plus another 10. Has anything changed in the last 3 years. I really don't want to buy another book, so I would appreciate some feedback from all you folks on Atkins. Sticking to 20 carbs per day. Veggies, cheese, meat, poultry and eggs. Thanks for letting me vent.

Good luck Judie, you can do it. I see you are from Surrey. I'm in Ashcroft, and it's good to see that we are finally getting more low carb goodies in Canada. This is the greatest group and I'm sure you will find all kinds of help here.

Judiemom,
May I suggest adding more veggies, some LC fruits and nuts, and moving to OWL...
This actually tends to help, not hinder weight loss. And you don't want to get to a point where you *can't* eat carbs, because you've stayed on induction so long and made your body hyper-sensitive to them...Just my .02

One important change worth noting is the concept of net carbs. This means you subtract the amount of fiber from the total carbohydrates. For example:

1/2 c. asparagus 3.8 carbs - 1.9 fiber = 1.9 net carbs

What this means is that you can eat most legal vegetables to the limit of your appetite.

You can visit the Atkins website and get the latest foodlists and other info.
www.atkins.com

Of course, there are numerous links in this site that you can explore and find answers and encouragement all over the place.

Even though various low-carb food products are coming out now, most people on this site say Beware! You can easily overeat on these "fake foods" (my term) and the sugar alcohol sweeteners are seriously counterproductive for a lot of people.

Best wishes.
