Just hafta share this info:

I tried a Subway low carb wrap last night and it was delicious, although very flat and not as full as I thought it would be, plus pricey at over $4.

As always, if I find something I like, I try to make my own version of it for cheap.

I just got back from the grocery store and found what I was looking for: Tam-X-icos Lo-carb Wheat Tortillas. Here's the nutrional info on them:

Calories: 90
Fat: 4.5
Cholesterol: 0
Sodium: 300
Carbs: 9
Fiber 4
Sugar: 0
Protein: 5

When I punched the numbers into the hidden carb calculator, I came up with 7.3 grams of carbs each. Take away the fiber, and I get an ECC of 3.3 grams per wrap.

I bought all of the no-carb fixins' to put inside: ham, turkey, beef, cheese, lettuce, and some low carb stuff like tomatoes and onions (just a tiny bit in each wrap).

I'm going downstairs just now to cook one of these wraps and then fill it and eat it. The pack of 8 wraps was $2.99. The other stuff was inexpensive, as well. I figure my "April's Low Carb Wrap" will be about $1.00 or less each to make, with a total ECC of about 5 grams, give or take, depending upon how much tomato or onion I add.

Here I go....I'll let you know how it tasted...

Sounds great, April!

I'm a huge fan of low carb tortillas. There's just so much you can do with them.

Although the Subway wraps look really yummy, I've heard from too many people that $4 is just too expensive for the size. But they're great to keep in mind for those on-the-road emergency situations!

~*Have a wonderful LC Day! *~

Okay. I must say, they were superb.

I put two in the microwave, between paper towels, for 25 seconds.

I spread each with mayo and then heaped on thinly sliced chicken, three larges leaves of iceberg lettuce, some mustard, a smattering of sharp cheddar cheese, and on just one I added one slice of tomato and one slice of onion.

I wrapped them up and, holy cow, they were good! Total meal = about 12 grams of carbs. I'm going to eat a salad in about an hour and counting the green beans and chicken breast I had earlier for lunch, my total carb count for today will be about 30.

I'm so full....and feel so good about it...

Which grocery store did you find them. I have checked all the stores in our area, and can not find any low carb tortillas. I bought the Adkins, and I do not really like them, but, I am getting use to them now. Would like to find a better tasting one. I live in NW Florida, Publix is now carrying Atkins Breads, and Bagels, but most everywhere else is still resisting. Walmart Super Centers are really coming around though.

Darlene, low carb since 10/03 165/150 and holding ): Would like to stop holding and get on with it!! PLEASE!!!! (:

I bought the same brand of wraps and am sitting here now eating one. I scrambled 2 eggs and heated in the microwave 2 Brown N Serve sausage links. I wraped the eggs and sausage with a bit of cheddar cheese and then with a bit of butter in the pan I made my eggs, I lightly browned my wrap on all sides.
It is the most yummy thing to eat!

I love breakfast for dinner!

Jen:

Your concoction reminds me of those McDonald's breakfast burritos I used to buy many moons ago. In fact, when I took those tortillas out of the package, they reminded me of those McD's breakfast burritos.

I'm going to try your idea....sounds great!

Wraps from l/c tortilas is something we have been having for some time. One of my favorites is to slice some sausage (We buy burtons' which has 0 carb...Hillshire Farms is way to high for us) Anyhow, I slice it about 1/4 inch thick on a slant. Then I take one tortilla and spread 1 T of ranch dressing on it. Add about 1 cup of chopped lettuce, 1 slice of American cheese cut in half, and then the sausage....mmmm sooo good.

Dang.. I turned our local Kroger's upside down this weekend looking for that brand of wraps..

They only had the other brands (corn and flour) high carb.

Our local LC store carries the La Torilla Factory (name?) which is good but expensive here.

I'm probably going to have to start ordering online.

Did the same thing as you April. Took out the food processor and sliced, veggies~put them in baggies so they would be "all ready". The Tam-X-icos tortillas are amazing. To me they taste just like good ole fashion flour tortillas. Found mine at Clark's health foods.

I like to cook up some boneless/skinless chicken breast, a couple pieces of bacon, swiss cheese some lettuce, a little tomato, and then add some of that Hidden Valley B.L.T. dressing (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato) in a LC Wrap. Very tasty and very filling!

NOT GONNA QUIT!

Wolfman,
I did a search of my Kroger for like 3 weeks before I found them. They are on the mexican/pasta isle in a little refridgerated cabinet.

Funny....mine are also at Kroger in the foreign food section, but NOT refrigerated.

The pack says to refrigerate for best quality, so I threw 'em in the fridge when I got home.

John had two today for his lunch and LOVED them. He said he now knows why Subwy doesn't put too much stuff in them, however...it's because they don't wrap well! Better have a napkin and a plate to catch everything that falls out when you're eating them. Can't wait to get home tonight to have two more.

YUM!
