I swear I am. Still only around five pound loss after almost a month and a half--AND according to my measurements I've not lost any inches, either. I can tell by looking that I've lost a bit on my hips, and I know I've lost a little on my face and neck...so apparently that's the only result of eating this way for this long.

I'm trying not to be discouraged, but I know I'm eating a lot less than I used to. If I'm going to be losing weight this slowly, I should at least get to be the queen of something! I'm not being a very good walking advertisement for low carb living, that's for sure.

well, I am glad you have stuck with it so long. I know it is hard when you aren't SEEING results! I lose in my face, neck and chest, and my arms. My collarbone will be all stickin out, and no change in hips and thighs. It's just how I'm built and I am trying to accept it. Sure is hard, though.
Just keep on keepin on!!!

I really think that if you are feeling better than you ever have and if you are looking better than you have in a long time, then there is no need to get discouraged - even if you aren't losing weight...at least you are still reaching for optimum health...I haven't lost too much over the past moonth...4 pounds - and that's while doing induction...but I feel so much better and not so sluggish. I feel great! And I feel happy! I know it can get frustrating when you haven't lose for awhile. Just don't give up and keep on going! Perhaps, the whoosh fairy will pay you a visit soon!

I am queen of the glacier loss club. Truly. I lost 13 lbs. in the first ten days, then another ten pounds over the next few months, then NOTHING for six months.

Seriously.

Still, I show up places where there are friends I haven't seen in months and they GASP and say, "Wow! How much weight have you lost? You look so WONDERFUL!" Happened just last night, in fact.

How much have I lost since the last time those friends saw me? NONE.

Doesn't matter. I feel better, look better, and truly believe that this is my WOE for LIFE. You just have to stay away from results-oriented thinking with this WOL, if you really do FEEL better and LOOK better than you have in the past.

Funny thing is, I KNOW I'm not really the queen of glacier losing. I've met people on this forum who lose even slower than I do (people who've stayed at the same weight for a year or more, but keep at it). It's just not about the LOSING, if you FEEL and LOOK so great doing this WOE.

My two cents, anyway. Hang in there!!

Queen Terra , hang in there. 5 pounds in 6 weeks is still almost a pound a week.

Keep at it. This has to be a WOL. I lost 50 lb. the first 6 mo. and only 10 for the next year. I'm like Bon in that people who don't see me for a while keep saying "Wow, you've lost the weight" even though I hadn't since their last siting of me. Something still is going on so I'm content to keep going. Just the other day, my dh told someone that this is just the way I eat now and I will never quit. He's so right.

Terra, did you ever check out that questionnaire I had posted a while back about Candida? That stuff messes people up soooooo much. Here's a site with the questionnaire. Candida Questionnaire

It's worth a look just to see how you score. I know lots of people who have not lost weight even though they've tried and scored REALLY high on the test.

My step-daughter is LOADED with yeast, refuses to give up sugar and therefore won't get better. Her son is also loaded with it. He had to have emergency abdominal surgery due to abuse. The surgeon asked me if he had been on a lot of anti-biotics. I said not really. (I knew what he was going to say to me next) His little abdomen was COVERED with yeast, a white fungusy growth everywhere. They put him on 2 fungicide drips (amongst other drips) which did not take care of the problem. He has now been diagnosed with ADHD. I gave his mother a diet to follow with him. When she feeds him right, he is good as gold. Mommy had yeast in her breast milk while nursing him. I found a dirty bottle in a diaper bag in which she had expressed her milk for him. I opened it to clean it and WHEW!!!!! it smelled like bread rising. So I KNOW she is loaded with it and so are her children. It's really a very common condition that conventional doctors are not willing to acknowledge because of the widespread dispensing of antibiotics and steroids. Check out the questionnaire, what have you got to lose? (except maybe some weight, )

I did read that and scored high on it....but I'm having trouble giving it credence, sorry. I wasn't going to ask my doctor about it after already telling her I was on Atkins--didn't want her to think I'd gone off the deep end.

I am feeling better eating this way. Of course, that's a relative thing, because I can feel bad for no particular reason because of my disorder. But I'm definitely looking and feeling healthier.

Some days you just get discouraged. It's hard to read posts where people are complaining because it's been two whole weeks and they only lost 10 pounds!

Poor babies.

LOL! Terra, I know exactly what you're saying! In a way, it was probably good for me that I hadn't even thought of low carb discussion groups during my first couple of years.

My weight loss averaged (and I emphasise "averaged") about a half a pound a week. That included many ups, downs and l-o-n-n-g plateaus. What kept me going was how much better I felt.

I take no position on the candida question. I'm intensively trained in medicine so I can't really understand it and don't know of any peer reviewed research, yet I feel that whatever works for people is fine.

Just wanted to let you know that there are many members in this club! <<< "fast as a glacier! >>> is our motto. .... and about as easy to stop!

Maggie you are my hero. I too have been losing very very very very slowly on this WOE (can you say snail's pace). Long plateau's and losing and gaining back the same 3 lbs for weeks at a time, BUT I'm sticking with it.
Why you ask? Because I have never felt better in my life, I now have cheekbones, my asthma is virtually symptom free, and I have tons of energy.
Maggie, thanks again for showing us snails the way.
All you snails, hang in there!!

I'm in the home stretch and boyyyyyyyy is it slow. At least I haven't been gaining, just holding steady at 144. I think this is my body's "set weight."

But I will persevere. I'm never eating any other way, so when it comes off, it will come off.

Oh yes, glaciers do finally melt away. It has taken me 15 months to lose 42 pounds. That's just at .5 per week. One good thing about a slow loss, according to those who are supposed to know, is that you are more like to maintain it for the long haul. Let me tell you, I'm all about maintaing this weight and never gaining it back again. So, don't get discouragged, you will get there. Stick with it.

I am reading one of Suzanne Somer's books so I think I will give that a try. It's LC, no sugar or very little and proper food combining all wrapped into one. If it works, what the heck have I got to lose..........except these last 9 pounds.
