Well, I vowed to eat clean and totally screwed it up this weekend! Now my stomach is all in knots today and doesn't feel very well! And the worst part of all...I made the vow to God to eat clean, and so he is really chastising me for breaking my vow! Of course, He is willing to give me a second chance - as he does with all of us - but He has told me that I MUST fully obey Him if I want to see results. And of course, I will fully obey Him. So he has led me on a God-called fast this week and led me to read the book of Hosea (which I am currently doing) I didn't understand why that book at first, but now I totally get it. Food is my love...and I need to break that and return to Him as my first love. It makes a lot of sense now! And after this, I will continue to eat clean with no screw ups! Of course, I am hearing him say that I read ECC about making a vow to Him, and I broke the vow so why did I even make it? And of course, God is always right! But do I plan to make another vow and not fulfill it? NEVER! And of course, a week long fast will be enough to make sure I don't screw up again!

I wish you all the luck in the world with your fast . I understand that fasting is a big part of religion and have done them in the past myself.

I do want to make sure that you have seen a doctor and discussed fasting. It is not somthing to be entered into lightly and is not designed for weight loss. Please be sure you drink plenty of water if you decide to do this. You also should be taking a multi vitamin. Of course these are all things a doctor will discuss with you.

Good luck all!!

I personally more scientific than religious, But whatever motivates you. We all need to learn from our mistakes. Try to eat within your plan but don't limit yourself too much. You don't want to get too hungry and cheat again. Good luck

You are planning on fasting for a week?

I STRONGLY recommend that you do not do this. I do not understand how you could believe this is the right thing to do if you have read the Atkins book. If anything stick to induction rules, but please do not fast for a week.

I don't know which religious denomination you follow, but here is my thought on the matter:

1. God knows that we are sinners and tells us to ask forgiveness for our sins. You've done that by admitting that you had a screw up. Rejoice in the fact that God allows us to confess our sins and move on. Expecting yourself to never ever make a mistake again is unreasonable.
2. Eating is not a sin. You have to eat to live. Try not to punish yourself too harshly. Yes, He should be the top of your list of priorities, but you also have to get through the day-to-day requirements of eating, sleeping, etc.
3. God loves you. The most important thing is you on the INside. He knows what you feel and think and who you are INside.
4. I personally don't believe God is harsh and cruel. I ask for His strength in becoming healthy and strong, and for His help in choosing the right things to achieve health and strength.
5. Eating the natural things he has given us in their natural form is a great way to worship Him and thank Him for providing us with wonderful things to eat. God gave us delicious, healthy veggies, fruits, nuts, meats, poultry, fish.

As Seesko says, good luck on your fast, and be sure you are careful.

Thank you all for your support! This is not my first time to do a week long fast. I have done it before. My dh and I try to make sure that we always have a couple of days of fasting during the week in the household - being that he is an associate pastor of our church. I remember the first time I tried to fast, and I couldn't even make it through the first day. And the 2nd time round, I gained a couple of pounds...but that was okay.I knew I was fasting for the right reason. It's pretty simple to do now. And of course, my dh is on the fast with me this week. Actually, he was called to the fast first...and then I was called to do it with him. Of course, I am fasting for more than just being chastised. My dh and I are also fasting for our church members and all the people that are hurting today. I know I'm not perfect, and I will make mistakes...I am very aware of that...

Hey Sheyla, I totally understand what you are about to do, in fact, I have done fasts for days at a time to, for religious purposes. We can swap email addresses if you like. Start a private topic with me. God spend

yes, I think that fasting for spiritual reasons, while a very ancient and useful practice, is best discussed in private messages or via personal emails.

while i do support it and occasionally practice it myself, i don't feel this forum is really the place to talk about it.

Yes, thank you for your delicate touch. While I occassionally fast, accidentally, because I became too stressed or overworked, I always thought there was a bit in the bible about your body being a temple to cherish, but to each their own, and none of us can claim to know another's spiritual experience or needs.
