crissy:

It's going to be hard to stay under 25g a day just eating fruit. The thing is, most veggies are so much more nutrient dense, and have so much more fiber, that the portion size of 25g carbs of veggies vs 25g carbs of fruit would be so much more! So while fruit is great, it is generally limited because you can get more carb bang for yer buck going the veggie route. Does that make sense?

Also, we have two other issues to deal with:

1. fructose, the sugar found in fruit, seems to have a lot going against it as far as insulin and fat gain, from what i've read.
2. fruits (in general) have a much higher GL than veggies (in general). The glycemic load is important, since part of what you are trying to do on Atkins is prevent spikes in blood glucose.

I think maybe you should re-think your diet choice - perhaps another "lower" carb plan would be better for you? Also, I wonder if we couldn't focus on the veggies you DO like? And do some fancy recipes with those?

No matter what you do, vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet. So learning to love the ones you can eat seems important in my mind.

Just a few random thoughts!

HTH,
ANDREA

I never met a veggie I didn't like. You must be eating the wrong ones!

1 medium apple = 22 carbs, 5 fiber
1 navel orange = 16.3 carbs, 3.4 fiber
1 banana = 29 carbs, 4 fiber
1 Bartlett pear = 25.1 carbs, 4 fiber
2 med. plums = 19 carbs, 2 fiber

As you can see, they are all quite high in carbs. It's up to you if you want to use most of your carbs for the day with 1 piece of fruit. There isn't enough fiber in 1 piece of fruit to do any kind of good either. Vegetables have so much "bang for the buck." Since you have only just finished induction, being at a 25 gram level really doesn't give you much leeway. And if you eat them alone, you will probably be starving a half hour later.

My two cents.
