I got my initial blood work back that I got done 4 days into induction... I wish I would have had it done before starting but these days you get to the docs when you can, they are crowded around here!

I will post my numbers when i get home form work and you can comment on them, I am really interested in finding out whats good, whats bad; unfortunately al my doc would tell me is that everything is good.... I am switching docs to someone who knows how to expound on a thought. :-)

Mike, that's good that you thought to have the numbers checked so early in the game; most people don't bother, but should.

Be sure you don't check them again for about 4-6 months to get a truly, accurate picture of how this woe (way of eating) is affecting them.
Good luck!

Summer

Ok, I am home from work now and wanted to post my blood work for others to comment on. This was a couple days into atkins but luckily done before I was too deep into induction.. I started Atkins on Jan 5, 2003 @ 261 lbs. I am now about 244..245 depending when I keep stepping on the scale.

---------------------------------------------
Some Basics...
---------------------------------------------

White Blood Cell Count - 8.5
Red Blood Cell Count - 5.67
Hemoglobin - 17.1
Hematocrit - 49.6
MCV - 87
MCH - 30.1
MCHC - 34.4
RDW - 12.7
Platelet Count - 237

I won't bore you with the rest.. :-)

---------------------------------------------
The good stuff...
---------------------------------------------

Cholesterol - 186
Triglyceride - 116
HDL - 45
LDL - 118
Ratio - 4.1

---------------------------------------------
Thyroid tests...
---------------------------------------------

T4, FREE, NON DIALYSIS - 1.31 ng/dL
TSH - 1.3 uIU/mL

---------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, I never go to the doctors for anything, unless its a sinus infection so I do not know a good doctor in my area, and obviously this one was an example of who not to go to. He could not even explain all these to me in meaningful terms.... could have been the cultural language barrier or the fact that Aetna insurance stinks! Anyway, I have two sisters who are registered nurses and they said things look fine, and would most likely spike a little then slowly work their way down... which is good for me!

I thought that being 261 pounds when I started was going to produce some horrendous results with my blood work, but I am definitely relieved that its all ok.

Ok, sorry to post so much, I just wanted to see what everyone thought and maybe what I can expect to happen to some of my numbers based on your experiences! Thanks everyone!!

I hope my tax numbers come out as positive as my blood work did

Good move to get your numbers done early on, Mike.

Keep an eye on your triglycerides and your risk ratio. Those are now considered the most important predictors of future cardiac problems. Those are the two things that you are MOST likely to see improving over time.

Summer's right in suggesting that you wait several months before re-testing.

Let me also add in, that my lipid profile has continued to improve over my 5 years of lc'ing.

You have much to look forward to.
