I wonder if anyone knows what might cause this--I have kind of a full feeling in my throat after eating, especially after eating spinach for some reason. It's not heartburn and it doesn't hurt, it's just strange. Not like a hiatal hernia either.

Any ideas? And what about this diet might cause it?

It sounds like it might be an allergic reaction to something? Perhaps the spinach? I haven't experienced this *yet*

I'd go with an allergic reaction also.

Terra,

Does it feel swollen???

If it does: Watch out, that is an early sign of anaphalactic shock!!

Ditto Sharon, Terra!

I would watch this VERY closely! If you start feeling like your throat is closing off or if you start experiencing ANY breathing difficulty, get thee to an emergency room ASAP!

I have a good friend who is allergic to spinach and this sounds frighteningly similar to his reaction.
You might want to put a call in to your doc; he/she will probably have you take an antihistimine (Benadryl)...
Food allergies can come on suddenly -- even after years of eating a particular food -- and they are nothing to fool around with!

Please keep us posted.

I'm not having trouble breathing. My understanding is that a shock reaction would be very quick. This has been going on for days. I'm not ruling out the spinach, though, because I was eating a lot of spinach salads for a few days. Hmmm. Also with blue cheese and nuts, both of which could be problems if you have allergies.

Yes, a shock reaction would be very quick, but that doesn't mean that a *lesser* allergic reaction isn't equally serious... they can progress rather rapidly!

For example, I was taking Ceclor (a penicillin-based antibiotic that I had taken MANY times before) and I developed a couple of hives on my legs. Just a couple. No biggie and I didn't even relate the two...
I took my next dose and there was no problem -- until about 4 hours later when my ENTIRE BODY was covered with hives!
I went to the ER and they gave me a steroid shot, but the next day the hives were worse (covering the bottoms of my feet, palms of my hands, and my eyelids). Two days later, they gave me a second steroid shot, but it took a total of over a week for the hives to completely disappear.
Now, granted, antibiotic stays in your system longer than spinach (and I had taken about 4 days' worth by the time I had the reaction), but a seemingly mild allergy can turn into a violent reaction suddenly.

Have you ever had any kind of reaction to any of these foods before???
Sometimes people will note that they have *felt bad* after eating a particular food, months -- even years -- before having a *true* allergic reaction. Also, if you have *strong cravings* for one of these foods, that can be an indicator of the culprit as well; for some reason, we often crave the food that we are allergic to...

It's not bothering me yet today, but I haven't eating anything, either.

I did wake up with a chest cold so it could be that. I'm not sure. At least that would explain the sore chest.

I found out yesterday that it IS a hiatal hernia. Now that I know what it is, it's bothering me even more. I can only take a few bites before I start feeling too full. It's going to be hard to eat at all when I feel this way. :(

I ended up with a haital hernia and a stricture - felt like my throat would just close up on certain foods and it was sooooo painful. Peanut butter killed me. White knuckle pain.
I had to go in and have it expanded (outpatient) with a balloon. and I am on Nexium daily now. I don't have the reaction anymore, but if I don't take my Nexium I start to feel the reflux and tightening coming back on.

Do you think it is related to eating low carb? Because I didn't have the problem until about a month and a half of eating this way.
