Climbing Onto Soapbox....

Yes indeed the myths and misinformation continue to abound both far and wide. Just today I was informed by the cashier at Walmart, as I was making some LC purchases, that Low Carb dieting is very dangerous. It's really not his fault, he was only repeating what he had heard via radio/tv, so he said. But in the heat of the moment it makes you want to slap somebody nekkid' and hide their clothes!

However, I regained control, came to my senses and decided it was time to jump on the "inform and educate" LC bandwagon. After all that's the only way we're ever gonna' get the truth out about this wonderful WOE. Being nasty to the uninformed will never help. So I told him it was all a myth and that there were tons of medical research to prove that it was not only healthy but a great way to learn to eat for a lifetime.

After all, if it's as dangerous as the propagandists make it sound, why don't they come up with specific cases of folks who were ill effected by LC eating. Cause they can't do it!

And they're just a little to late to convince me anyhow. 'Cause I've lost 55 pounds on the WOE, lowered my BP from 140/90 to 112/70 while cutting my BP meds, lowered my cholesterol to 172, acid reflux has practically disappeared, feet and legs no longer ache, I am no longer a sugar junkie, now eat more veggies than ever in my life and am rid of uncontrollable cravings! And that's just for starters.

Climbing down from soapbox....

Thanks to all my LCE friends for listening. I don't have the time to post very much, but I just had to speak on this subject...although I know it has been discussed many times.

Have a great LC day,

Ron

I'm with you - I TRY to educate whenever I can....but most people have made up their minds....one at a time we keep plugging away!

I know fibbing is bad...but too silence some of the real "in your face" type of cashiers or waitors/waitresses, I normally respond with "Well, considering I'm a cardiologist.. I think I know more than you...."

Ya know, I used to think the same thing. I was dead set against LC. I have had friends lose a lot of weight doing LC, and keep it off....and yet, I figured they were just heading for trouble and would eventually gain it all back. Meanwhile, I was following a very high carb diet, and always tired, having heartburn, and not losing a pound!! A friend of mine very firmly told me one nite that I needed to research LC and try it instead of slamming something that I obviously misunderstood. He also pointed out that my other "diets" weren't working. I was so mad at him!! But, 2 days later, I was reading Protein Power, and a week later, I was on the program. I guess you could say what he said hit home, and I have not looked back. I am down 17 lbs since the end of October, and I keep moving down. I am more alert, not as tired, no heartburn, no sluggishness, and very few cravings (candy!). I just ask myself, why didn't I try this sooner???

Yeah, when I first started this WOE I had a lot of friends that were very active sport-wise (biking, volleyball, etc). They never had issues with weight control. They jumped all over me about how unhealthy my "diet" was. Well, after the first go round where I lost 50 lbs and my blood work came back perfect...and they were starting to put on the pounds from less activities...they started begging me for more info on Atkins.

Hey Wolfman,

I'm not a cardiologist...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

That makes me an expert don't it?

After all, an expert is just a former spurt!

Sad to say, but I used to be one of those naysayers, too. I didn't actually go around preaching but inside I just knew that it couldn't be healthy for you cause hadn't I read all those articles and comments by the "experts" frowning on LC diets? Then one day while searching the web, one of my keywords pulled up the Low Carb Luxury site and I started to read the articles posted there. The links on it in turn lead me to other LC sites and more stuff to read. The more I read, the more I became convinced that this was a way more healthy lifestyle for me.

Umm...hi, you're a cashier at WalMart, not a nutritionist!

I work retail(Lane Bryant of all places) and I would not DREAM of telling one of my customers how wrong she was for going to Weight Watchers or any of the other "big lie" diet places.

Good for you for saying something!!
