| I really hate to say that, but I don't think I can do this WOL anymore. My family has a history of low blood sugar, and it's just really bothering me lately, especially this morning. I just don't think this a healthy way for me to eat and I definitely don't want to feel like this anymore! I want to thank you all for all of your support and continued success in this WOL! | Stacy: You do what you need to do! This WOL is NOT for everyone. What had your doctor said initially about you choosing Atkins? Follow his or her advice. We wish you the very best!!! Be well, that's what counts... LCandrea |

| I am surprised about the blood sugar thing. This way of eating usually helps that. Maybe you're not eating enough. When I was on the Zone, my blood sugar wasn't very stable--I think I was still eating too many carbs for me. |

| Stacy, have you spoken with your doctor? A controlled carb diet is usually how hypoglycemia is treated. Hypoglycemia is a pre-diabetic condition and it needs to be handled as such. You are 80% more likely than a non-hypoglycemic to develop type II diabetes. Maintaining even blood sugars is vital for you. Atkins may not be the best low carb plan for you. I would suggest you look at Protein Power instead. A couple of tips.

Make sure you're eating something, preferably protein, at least every 3 hours. More frequently if you're still having low blood sugar episodes.
Make sure your meals and snack are carefully balanced in a way that spreads your allowed carbs out evenly throughout the day. For example, have 5-7 carbs per meal and 3-5 carbs per snack except for your bedtime snack. This one needs to be a high fat protein with no carbs. This will help prevent early morning low blood sugars.
Read Dr. Richard Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. It will give you a better understanding of your disease and how to manage it with low carbing.
Take a look at some of the topics in our diabetes support forum. Most of the information is the same for hypoglycemics.[/list]But most importantly, talk to your doctor. LCE member since March 2002 |
