I started lc 1 year ago. I have lost 20 lbs and some more and then put it back on and took it off and put it on....I am a results based person so when the scale hardly moves after a month of perfect lcing and cardio and weight training I give up. I did the fat fast to see if I could correct my metobolic resistance and I lost 12 lbs in a week. I went back to induction and put back on 6 and now ....still not losing. I have heard people talk about if you stay on induction for too long that you have carb sensitivity (not sure what that means)? Any advice would help. Oh...my thyroid function is low normal...not sure if that matters. I am just sick of struggling. I feel like I'm giving Atkins a bad name...20 lbs in 1 year???? HELP!!!

kmac -
I'm eager to hear what advice you get. My weight loss results with this WOE have been less than stellar also, with no weight loss since before Christmas. Luckily, I've seen some movement in the tape measure. It's hard when you see the weight just rolling off others. I've not tried the fat fast yet so I might have to think about that.

I would be happy if I lost 20 lbs over the next year (I'd be at goal). But I can see why you're frustrated.

Kmac-

In order for the veterans to answer, you are going to need to post your normal daily menu, height, current weight, target weight, meds, etc.

Then you will receive a wealth of info.

Good luck and hang in there. I was a on again off again LC for years and now I stick rather well to the WOE but the weight is coming off slowly... but its coming off so I'm sticking with it for life (cause I'm not gaining...)

And I feel great!

Kmac,
Your post has my name all over it. I am on my second year and second time around. I don't have that much to lose but I get 13 off and then just stop and this morning I gained two pounds. I even considered calling in my friends and have a funeral for my scales. I think I will just go get the shovel and bury it by myself. Now this is what is so weird. I am eating on the OWL level and so enjoying it and feel absolutly great and look great I might say for my age but it is soooo slow. I have never felt like this on any other weight loss plan and definitely did not have this will power. I go to the gym 3 days a week and I am building muscle so it weighs more maybe that's it. I play the guessing game, maybe it is this, maybe it is that. But at the same time I am fitting in my clothes and dropping sizes. Go figure that would you please!!! Hey whoever you are thank you for posting this morning because I had a chance to vent. So I will sit and wait and look for those good moderators to give us their insight. Let's stay encouraged think inches and not weight loss.
Stay in There!
Mary

I'm almost two months into my second year of Atkins--faithfully following OWL, with daily exercise, and appropriate vitamins. I lost 25 lbs in the first six months--and virtually nothing since. I'm very close to goal--ten pounds at most.

The questions I ask myself: Do I like the program? Can I sustain it for life? How do I feel? How do I look? My positive answers to all these questions outweigh (so to speak) any concern I have over the 10 lbs. left to lose.

I consider those 10 lbs. motivational.

I agree with Barb, think of how great you feel. I'm just past one year on this WOE, lost 70+ lbs in 10 months, very little since. But I have learned to love exercise, cooking, and the positive mental attitude from this WOL. Stay off the scale for an extended period (month or more), stick to plan, and results will come

Same here. I have lost over 30 pounds on this WOE (started May 2003), but nothing since September 2003. I am only about 10 pounds from goal (like Barb L), and as much as I wish the dang scale would move, I will not go back to my former eating habits. I feel fantastic; I exercise more often than not, and I wear a size 4. Eventually, the extra 10 will come off, frankly, I don't care id it takes a year, or two. I am in better health than ever before, and you will be, too. You are eating better and exercising more.

Hi guys...okay to answer some questions....I,m 5'4" and weigh 222lbs. I should be somewhere around 140. I'm 30 and have 3 kids (7/4/2). I'm not on any meds(just multi and fish oil). My menu....
Breakfast..2 eggs with 2ham, or 2sausage
Lunch...2c lettuce with tuna or chick
Snack...2 deviled eggs
Dinner...about 5oz.steak or chicken or pork with 1 cup vegie(brocc.or green beens)
snack...chicken wings with texas pete's hot sauce (maybe 10)
I don't have that everyday but you get the idea.
I stay away from nuts and lc treats I do ocassionally have sf jello with whip cream but maybe once everyother week...I gave up caffeine so only have decaf with tiny bit of cream and sweet and low in the am (sometimes at night, too 'cuz I just need something). I had a binge earlier in the week (not losing weight so I overeat...dumb I know) so I am sticking at induction totals for 2 weeks. Then what...if I'm not losing how can I add more? I walk on the treadmill 5 x's a week and weights 4.I've always worked out and love weight training. I feel okay (how okay can you feel when you have 82lbs to go) I'm active and am not hungry but I can tell you I won't do this indefinately with no results. I must be doing something wrong...I just don't know what it is. Am I staying on induction too long...I've never upped my carbs from 20-25 '''''''''cuz I have so much to lose........Anyway...thanks for reading and making me feel like I'm not alone. Good luck to all of you.

UP the VEGGIES!

my opinon is carbs in natural veggies don't count. I eat lots of them, green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, even carrots and peas. I always know a bad carb by the way I feel an hour or so after eating. vegatables never make me feel crummy (head rush, racing heart, upset stomach) like a true cheat does (pasta, bread). if your exercising on a regular basis, lots of veggies will probably help your energy levels, recovery time, I know they have worked wonders for me.
by the way, this is coming from someone who hated veggies so bad you couldn't find one in my house for many years.

Sorry you're going through such a rough experience on low carbing.

The only thing i might eliminate from your menu are the chicken wings. Or cut back to 4. But You might try adding in veggies. Lots of veggies. Why not replace the wings with a platter of raw veggies dipped in ranch dressing.
Broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, cucumber slices, celery are my favorites for this. Do you use a food tracker like www.fitday.com ?
I find it invaluable to keep myself on track. Remember too much protein turns to glucose and there are little carbs in things like eggs (.6 per egg). Fitday will let you see where you are, so you can change things to see if it makes a difference.

And absolutely, any thyroid issues can affect weight loss, even so called "low normal" or subclinical levels. The thyroid is extremely important to good metabolism.

You know, I did take my temp every day for 4 days and it was 95.6, 96.5, 96.5,and 97.0. That is what prompted me to get my levels checked. I have read extensively on thyroid levels and know that even if they are normal that I could still have an issue with how they are utilized. I have called an endocronologist nurse and told her and she said there is nothing they could do but to check it in 6 months. If I was rich...I'd find out on my own. But...I feel like my dr's are looking at me like "she's fat and doesn't want to do the work". So I let it go. You hear so much from so many other people, Dr's included. We don't really have a lot of say in our health care without $ though.

Kristen, sounds like you would be a good candidate to read Schwarzbein Priciple II. Dr. Diana Schwarzbein is a doctor, an endocrinologist, and has written 2 books that explain how your hormone levels work, how diet impacts them and what we can do to improve them. Also Protein Power is a very good book too. You might want to do some research with these books, figure out some clues, ya know?

Have you done a LOT of antibiotics in your life?

Yes. I had chronic strep throat since I was a child and just had my tonsils out 3 years ago. But I was on antibiotics a lot. Why??? What does that do? You are the 2nd person who has suggested that book to me....looks like I ought to read it.

Kristen, you might have a couple of things going on. With all the anitbiotic use you could have a yeast problem called Candida. Take this questionnaire and see how you score: Candida Questionnaire Most conventional doctors won't even acknowledge it as a real problem. Would you be able to go to a certified Naturopathic MD with your insurance?

Candida causes all kinds of "mysterious" problems that can't be explained by conventional medicine.

With your temperature readings you COULD have a thyroid problem too. You should have your doctor do an in-depth thyroid test on you.
