I don't think TJs is in WV at this time. I have seen milk/egg protein powder at Kroger. Most health food stores carry it.

You'll need kefir grains to make real kefir. You can purchase commercial varieties of kefir, but they're not the same. Check out the Caveman Forum for several threads on kefir. There are folks on this forum who offer to share their grains for the cost of shipping.

Just Whites might work fine in some recipes. Do you have any REAL health food stores? You could check your yellow pages and call around before you run around. ("let your fingers do the walking.")
It might be kinda pricey, ranging in price from $8-$15 per can. I only use it for recipes tho, so it lasts a long time.

As for the Kefir, you want to get grains from someone that lives close to you. Perhaps someone from New York can ship some to you. Check out the forum Susan posted. Ithink there's a thread called, "Yes, I have Kefir Grains to share." or something like that. I will see if I can find it for you.

Ya know, I just re-read that thread and I see that you already posted to it. So sorry you never got a response to it. I would be happy to send you some dried grains, I do have a batch ready. So send me a private topic (go to top of the page here and click on "My Space" and then click "Start a Private Topic", send me a message with your e-mail and physical address. The dried grains ship for 60 cents, so no big on reimbursing me. Go to the link in "Yes I have Kefir Grains to Share" and find the link Maggie posted about Dom's site (if you haven't been there before) so you can "do your homework" on how to do this. You'll want to have all your equipment ready to go before you start.

My oversight! I meant to respond to Nutlover's post and I got distracted and never got back.

I'd be happy to send some grains as well. I don't have dried grains, but active ones, which cost a bit more to ship, to your region probably about $3-4. Your choice whether you want to get dried or "fresh". Send me a private topic if you'd like with your address and I'll get right at it.

I'll put a similar post in the Kefir Grains thread.
