Correction to this topic. My brain may be playing tricks on me. That should have been 130 carb grams per day. Not 190. Sorry

Don't worry, that is what ketones are for. Your brain eventually gets about 75% of it's energy from them, the rest comes from glucose that is created from proteins by gluconeogenisis.

well, i agree that the article makes some strong statements/assumptions ... but what do you think about the emphasis on watching calories? do you all think this is something that we should also be monitoring more closely?
low carb (atkins) + controlled calories = better results?

The article does make a good point, though--that overeating low-carb products is just as bad as overeating any other kind of junk food or calorie source. I worry about the proliferation of "low-carb" labels on all sorts of snacks.

Atkins helps me monitor my consumption in a simple way, by eliminating food groups. No sugar, no flour, no starch. Period. Pretty easy to remember. But I know I'm getting plenty of calories from the full-fat salad dressing, mayonnaise, cream in my coffee, etc. And that could easily carry me over the limit for my body. Nothing is easy after all!

I agree Barb. I am a faithful Fitday user and I do monitor my caloric intake as well as my carb. To a certain extent I also watch my fat intake. I try to input a full day of food in the morning and that way I can see how my planned eating adds up. This way I can make adjustments to portions before I actually eat it. It has worked well for me.

I also agree, and have posted here before about it, with Barb's concern over low carb products. Substituting one processed food for another low carb processed foods is just not going to get me the results I want...which is to be healthier.

I refuse to count another calorie!!! I am doing nicely just like I have been for the last 9 months counting carbs (AKINS) and "that's my story and I'm sticking to it" and.... "if it ain't broke don't fix it". My take on it.
Satisfied!
